The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
Please note, Antonio Romero does NOT refer to his routine as the Perfect Cups and Balls. That's my ill-conceived witticism. He calls his routine:
Cubiletes Transparentes
At this website:
http://www.themagicworkshop.com/
Antonio Romero has released a book on his "special" brand of magic. I don't think he has it in English. Perhaps a torrent of emails to his site, asking him to translate it would convince him to do so.
His wonderful cups and balls routine: Cubiletes Transparentes is available for your viewing pleasure at:

It will fool you, entertain and amaze you! My congratulations go out to Antonio for the release of his wonderful book. Now if only I'd studied a bit more in high school Spanish!

It shows it was "writed" by Rafael Benatar, so I might not be that much of an issue to have it translated.. Thanks for the
link to the video, real nice twist on CB.

Where does it say "writed"?

Re: The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
It's a fun routine to watch and he presents it well.
He's using a lot of traditional cup and ball techniques that you don't recognize because of the size of the balls. And the cups are plastic, not glass, so they can be squeezed slightly as he picks them up.
He's booked to perform at the World Magic Seminar next March 1 to 4 in Las Vegas and he'll be a big hit.

I, for one, will not be buying an English translation of this book. I don't want to know how he does it! Sure, there are some traditional moves and techniques -- but the routine and effects are so beautiful, that I just want to sit in awe, with my jaw open, saying "WHAT?!"

What a fun routine. I love his attitude too. Just a great piece of magic. Thanks for posting the link to youtube!

No plastic. The glasses are as real as it gets

Rafael,
When the 2nd cup "pops up" and he taps the bottom, the sound is the same as tapping a plastic glass. May or may not be causing the confusion.

Re: The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
Well, Antonio did the routine at the club and somebody just happened to have a video camera. You can tell the sound quality by the music.

A magician who got many calls
To perform the old Cups and Balls,
No longer will;
Because, though he still
Has the cups, he ain't got the balls.

Cups and Balls I will never perform,
Because my balls I wish to keep warm.
My wand is okay,
'cause it's out anyway,
and the ends are really quite worn.

Re: The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
Since doing the cups on the street,
The weather has gotten me beat,
I stand by my table,
I'm often unable
To make out the crowd through the sleet.
Ah, street shows in the Scottish winter. I can hardly wait...
Take care, Ian

Re: The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
I won't construct a poem for this but, Antonio has released
a DVD explanation of the routine. He has also re-filmed the routine itself. You have the option of listening to the explanation in Spanish or English. Rafael Benatar speaks the English version.
Really a clever, different routine.

... and Antonio will be performing his routine as part of the mini-symposium on the cups and balls at the 32nd World Magic Seminar next March 1-4 in Las Vegas. He will also be lecturing on the holdout. Rafael will be with him and also performing his version of the C&Bs.

Re: The Perfect Cups and Balls routine.
... or as I probably should have said:
If Antonio Romero you wish to see,
Then WMS '09 is the place to be.
The Mini-Symposium will raise the bar,
with Biro, Palmer, and Benatar.
Plus Romero, Thomsoni, and Latimer,
A crew that is superb without any peer.
Magic so great you will laugh and shout
Register now, and don't be left out.
If my sad attempt at rhyme is too remote,
Then I must try another way to promote.

Anyone remember the parody of magician's rhyming doggerel in the Crimp? One of his best efforts - truly hilarious.
