Can't find a referene in our search, so forgive me if this has been a topic before.

Known as the fez-wearing magician whose tricks always seemed to go wrong, this British comedian suffered a heart attack during a televised performance. Given the usual nature of his act, the audience took some time to realize that this really wasn't part of it. He died later in hospital.

A last story; Paul Daniels was once in a North African country (I forget which) and was perusing a market. On one stall a man was selling fezes (fezii?), doing the arm shake and saying 'jus like that'. Paul asked him how he knew about Cooper, but the trader had no idea who he was talking about. It turned out that every Brit who came near the stall put on a fez and did a Tommy Cooper impression...

I met Tommy Cooper quite a few times over the years. Boy, could he drink, and boy was he funny! He was and is a national treasure in Britain. Much loved - much missed. To watch him is to receive the best lesson you'll ever get in comic timing. He had you laughing before he said anything. A look, a glance, a Cooper cough...that was enough! Brilliant.

A friend of mine who recently moved to Houston did a few appearances with Tommy. They had an out of town engagement, so my friend told Tommy he would have the cab driver swing by on he way to the gig and pick him up.

My friend paid for the cab, and Tommy said, "I'll get the tip."

He put something into the cabdriver's shirt pocket and said, "Here, lad. Have a drink on me!" The cabdriver had recognized him and was sure he had put a 20 note into his pocket.

My friend asked him, "What did you put in his pocket?"

"A tea bag."
