Mental Effects to perform on the radio

Postby Bryan Miles » March 28th, 2008, 10:34 am

HI All,

I am looking for a list of possible effects to be performed on radio. (other than involving playing cards.)
Effects that can involve callers, and listeners.....

appreciate it ;-)

In Peter Duffie's Scotland goes Mental ebook I published Spice Rack, which is a branching anagram table for food seasonings. You could call someone, ask her to pick a bottle of spice from her kitchen shelf, and then 'read her mind'.

But there's a very good chance that anything Banachek has is several orders of magniture better.

Take care, Ian

I hadn't heard about a new DVD... sounds interesting.

But you still can't go wrong with Banachek's "Radio Magic" CDs.

There are two very strong radio pieces presented in Geoffrey Durham's Professional Secrets.

No, actually, "Durham's Prediction Box" was developed originally for radio performance and -- in the course of introducing it -- he describes the essential elements of a radio trick and teaches an extremely effective piece (not using the box) as an example of "the ideal radio trick"...I think Geoffrey's experience is very valuable here to anyone considering radio performance.

I once transmitted the time I've set on my watch to a caller. And of course the host of the show confirmed it for all listening.

There are special watches out there to help you achieve this effect.
Just a thought.

You must reads the book of Eddie Fields (Jon Racherbaumer) about the Waikiki code.

Enjoy!

The Waikiki Card Location does indeed appear in the Racherbaumer-penned Fields book(s). However, it's worth noting two things:

1. It was invented by Bill Murata (who lived in Hawaii, hence the title), and marketed in 1945.

2. It does not work on the radio. If you give due consideration, you'll realize why.

Hi Max!

I use it via telephone and is very good effect!
I never use it in radio up to now.

But I think what exist two way to put it in radio:

1)If you have in the radio, you impart the first instructions and then you (it not work for all the publics people what are earing the radio), but you can work with one radio listener, who is in the air via telephone.

2) You can call to the radio from another site, and the presentator (host) of the radio is the spectator in these case, in these case the he read the cards on the air, and you work with it. And the radio listener listen the effects .-

I think what is applicable to radio, very good in the way 2.-
But I predict what you have one best way (occult) to put in radio.;)

Thanks ;)

No, I do not have a "best" way to perform it on the radio. It does not work on the radio.

Live, or on the telephone, the only person who is listening to the sound and timing of the activity is the magician; the participant is busy doing the actual activity.

On radio, or in front of a group, the rest of the audience is not engaged in that activity, and the information is often as obvious to them as it is to the magician.

So -- it is a great trick, but not for radio.

This can be converted into a radio mental effect, Bryan.

A CARD TRICK WITH NO CARDS

This can be performed for an entire roomful of people, or for a caller you are speaking with, live.

Think of a card
Multiply the value by 2 [J=11, Q=12, K=13] all others, face value
[the hard part] Add 1 to the total
Multiply by 5
If it's a Spade add 9, Heart 8, Diamond 7, Club 6
What's your total?
How it works
Subtract 1 from the first digit/s in the total -- that will determine the card value
The last number will be either a 1, 2, 3, or 4
That will tell you the suit -- 1=C, 2-D, 3=H, 4=S

My non card trick (FRENCH RABBITS) from "Card Magic Companion" works on the radio. I've done it likewise on BBC Radio Sussex. It's a variation on/of the grey Elephants thing. It also has a funny gag ending.

Have all the listeners participate. When they call in with their 'key' digits, you, instantly tell them their selected card.

Steve "Banachek" Shaw and Scott Wells have a very good subtlety for this in their "Radio Magic" tapes/CDs.
