Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
Sorry, but it's never going to happen.
Sawa has filmed a set of four or five DVDs on all new coin magic with L&L that are going to come out between April and July. Sawa will be here in April for the Castle Banquet and again in July for the combined IBM/SAM convention.

I too would've loved to read SAWA Magic Library vol. 2. The first vol. is excellent IMHO. Hearing that Sawa has some new
dvds coming up is great news indeed.

Sounds good Richard but what about a second or third book.

Let's just say that we had different ideas about what should be in a book

Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
Any chance that Dr.Sawa's upcoming release of 4 DVDs of new coin material might just be the start of much more of his work being released? I'm sure he could easily fill many more 4 DVD sets. And it would sure be great to finally see some of the early stuff that he held back.

Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
Richard, with the recent interest in Japanese magic, thus Sawa's material, is there any chance that Sawa's Library 1 could be republished. Obviously, I wouldn't expect it to be soon because I know you are producing some other books at the moment, and you are reprinting some other books as well, but I would love to pick up a copy of Sawa's Library. Although I look foward to the L and L videos by Sawa, I have a feeling all of his repertoire is not featured on there. Is there any way maybe a column could appear in Genii from time to time with some of Sawa's unpublished effects?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
Only a small amount of the material I currently have of Sawa's is worth publishing--that's why there is no second book. I don't foresee reprinting his book.

Richard, would I be correct in assuming that you don't have any of his seashell material? It would be great to see in Genii some day, even if there won't be a Sawa Vol 2.

Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
No seashell routines, but:
Fans of Dr. Sawa should definitely order from The Chief Genii, the January 1977 (vol. 41 no. 1) back issue, with "Japan's Sawa" on the cover. It will instantly transport you back to the '70s, and the Doctor's clever material still kicks ass.
The cover article has Bill Larsen recounting in his inimitable style his visit with Dr. Sawa on a trip to Japan with Irene and the Shimadas.
The issue features 3 very good tricks:
--the famous "Slot Machine" (about which, in "The Genii Speaks" WWL(Jr) says, "If you can master Sawa's 'Slot Machine' you will have an effect more valuable than several years of subscription"--true to this day, no?)
--a broken and restored spoon effect called "Gary Ueller" (which if memory serves, inspired material from "at least" Messers Weber and Sankey) and
--"Sawa's Lady Bug Trick", a paddle routine using a little branch (you can make) with six leaves and ladybugs that appear and disappear as the branch blows in the breeze...
Yep, that guy's been good for a while now.

Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
I purchased the Genii Archive and I took a look at that quite a while ago. It really is a great issue. I also have Steven's Magic Emporiums video on him which is terrific.
It seems like a great idea...Has anyone tried Sawa's Sawap principle? If so, I know it isn't the most practical thing, but it seems like the ideas are endless.
When you say little of Sawa's remaining material is publishable, Richard, does that mean a lot of his stuff just isn't that practical?

There is also a seashell trick by Allen Okawa in the Almanac which is worth a look.

Re: SAWA Magic Library Vol. 1
Quite right Green Skittle, a very good trick:
"Wishing Shells" by Allen Okawa on pg. 275 of "The Collected Almanac".
As well, in the October 1975 "Genii" (vol. 39, no. 10--which features Mr. Okawa on the cover) he teaches his "Puka Shell Trick"...
