Worst performance ever - video on the net

Postby magicbar » March 13th, 2008, 3:16 am

I was shocked and dismayed about the news of Dan Harlan. I have also been shocked and dismayed at many pro magic shows and many talent shows with the amateur magician line-ups. I cringe when in magic shops when customers need a 'great new trick' for their pro-show this weekend (you've seen them too!). Heck, I even wince when watching the starlets of magic doing their extreme street magic with their bad ass mystical attitude because it is to me quite laughable. But never would I see all of this put together on this video that was shown on French or Canadian TV (assumed from the French show name). The amateur, unrefined, mal-developed act that embodies every joke Penn and Teller could ever do about the idiots allowed to buy a thumb tip.

We have several existing threads on Ursula Martinez. How much do you think her used thumbtips would sell for on eBay?

Magicbar you can probably relax... She calls herself a performance artist and that might be her only magic themed performance.

One thing you have to say about Ursula: She found her niche, and she stuck a thumbtip in it.

At Blackpool, Paul Stone invited me to a show that Ursula was in. This was Saturday night. I had to beg off; Sadly, I was too tired to watch her ditch her gizmo in her busby.

Getting old is a drag.

I understand she's doing a teaching DVD for L&L on that act.

Can't wait to see how big a reaction she gets from THAT crowd! ;)

hmmm - suggests we may have too suffer through male interpretations of this bit - cringe.

worst from my perspective is that she is a working comic who has found the club audiences receptive to this bit as comedy. What does say about us in the public perception?

I think her facial expressions and handling of the tip in the vanish tells you everything you need to know about the public's perception.

They find her mugging very funny because they recognise it from magicians they've seen vanish a silk in exactly the same way.

Well.. not EXACTLY.. but you get what I mean.
