It's been a long while since I've visited the forums  and it's been good taking some time to peruse and lurk around these past two days.
My question. My family and I are relocating this summer from L.A. back to the Atlanta area (Acworth) and I was wondering what is available in the magic world for me when we get moved. Thanks much...

Eric:
I live in the Atlanta area, and will be moving to the Acworth area in a matter of weeks. I look forward to meeting you as it appears will be practically be neighbors.
There are two local clubs:
IBM Ring 9 -- http://www.gamagicclub.com
SAM Assembly 30 -- http://www.sam30atlanta.org
My show SHENANIGANS has performances scheduled on May 24 in Alpharetta and July 6 in Buckhead. If you're interested in attending, email me and I will arrange for a discount code and VIP seating for you and your party.
Let me know what else I can do for you.
Best,
Joe M. Turner

Thanks for the quick response Joe! I will drop you an email in the next couple of days!
How about magic shops/venues in the area as well?

Re: Atlanta, Georgia & North
The only walk-in magic shop still operating in the area is Eddie's Trick Shop. There is a location in Marietta, and another in Duluth.
There are some restaurants where you can find magic on a regular basis; check the Ring 9 page for a list of public performances.

Re: Atlanta, Georgia & North
Eddies? The name sounds familiar so I looked it up. It seems to be more of a tourist trap and costumer. Is it really that great for magic?
Re: Atlanta, Georgia & North
Eddie's has a lot of costumes, puzzles, makeup, and other items in addition to magic. However, their magic selection is not bad. They carry the monthly magazines, they usually have some of the newest tricks and DVDs, and they usually stock some basic books. The adjoining dancewear shop is owned by the same folks, and as you would expect, they generate more money.
So no, Eddie's Trick Shop is not a dedicated magic-only establishment, but the selection is wider than you might imagine by looking at the web site. I'm certainly grateful to have the two locations nearby and I hope they continue to prosper.

Re: Atlanta, Georgia & North
Which one are you talking about? I went into one and it had next to nothing
Re: Atlanta, Georgia & North
Is anyone a Member of Ring 9? I would like to come and visit one of the meetings but don't know if I would be out of place because of my skill level or my experience. I really don't knwo what to expect
Re: Atlanta, Georgia & North
I'm a member of Ring 9 and attend meetings when I'm in town. There is a real mix of skill levels and a diverse range of magical interests.
Only way to know what it's like is to visit! Feel free to come as my guest.

Thanks
I'll plan on attending. I have a few routines that I am working on. Will people be able to help me there.
How do these meetings go? What happens?
