I'm not sure if this should be in this section of the forum, but since I got the information from Magic, probably here.

Today I got my February Magic and Genii from Glasgow. While reading through the review section I saw Mike Close's review of C4. Being somewhat of a flourish freak I had a look at the picture of the DVD box, and was surprised/amazed/dissappointed to see the great grand pooh bah of grammatical errors spashed right across the front.

OK, I'm a pedant, but did noone _really_ bother to proof read the packaging before it got sent to the printers? If this is supposed to be a professional production, what kind of example is this setting? Has this been mentioned before? Am I way behind the times, or did noone else care/notice?

Right, I've got that off my chest, and I feel better. I have a very real desire, however, to go around the Dealers' Hall in Blackpool tomorrow with a sharpie and do some correcting...

P.S. Before anyone calls me on it; I am not truely sure how to write "Dealers' Hall". Is it the hall of a dealer (dealer's) or descriptive (dealers)? I thought it was the hall of all the dealers, hence the trailing apostrophie.

P.P.S Maybe we can divert some of the residual energy from the theological debate to a grammatical witch hunt?

P.P.P.S. While I'm at it, the word 'None' is singular. It is short for 'Not One' as in 'Ian, none of your points is interesting'.

Joe M. Turner reviews Cap's DVD in the April issue of Genii. The DVD itself is well made, but Joe also comments on the textual errors on the package.
No matter what kind of typo you see, there is always a potential one that could have been worse: "Crap" Casino.
NOW, please don't get all hot and bothered, I do NOT think Cap is crap and I do NOT think that his DVD is crap. I like Cap and his DVD is well made. I was just making a joke about how a typo in the spelling of his first name could look REAL bad! That's all.
This reminds me of a spelling error I made in "Richard's Almanac" when referring to The Elmsley Count. I wrote, "The Elmsley Cont." Racherbaumer wrote to me and noted that I was lucky to have dropped the "u" rather than the "o." :eek:

I couldn't agree more, Ian. When we post here, we may or may not make a few grammatical/spelling errors. I and others make such errors , and it's not important (to me) in this environment.

But I'm regularly surprised by adverts, packaging, etc (in the magic world and elsewhere) which contains glaring errors. Many "professional" websites have such errors too. I'd have thought that it wouldn't take much effort to run the proposed documentation past a few vaguely literate people, especially when going to the expense of having packaging custom made. But many apparently don't bother to do so.

Sorry Ian, but in this context I simply can't resist pointing out that it should apostrophe. (From now on, I expect that my every error will be publicised.)

I'll hold my hands up to that spelling mistake. My defence is that I typed the post up late at night with the keyboard resting on my lap so as not to wake the household trying to pack to Blackpool and quietly seething.

Still, no excuse. He who lives by the pedantic didactic diatribe etc...

Ian, would you care to give us a review of Blackpool here on the Forum? Most magicians in the United States can't imagine a convention where 3,000 magicians show up for one day!
