Postby Dan McLean Jr » July 3rd, 2003, 7:07 pm

I've just created a Web site called MagicRoadie.com "Taking the mystery out of stage technology". What Ill present are application" guides with easy-to-understand-and-apply principles concerning audio & lighitng, specifically geared toward magicians. The site's not selling any product or service: It's just my way of contributing in the best way I can. Enjoy!

Another message from Dan regarding his excellent site:

How To Choose a Microphone

I've just added another article at MagicRoadie.com. "Pick A Mic, Any Mic!"
It doesn't tell you which type of mic is best for you, but by reading this guide, most magicians will be able to make their own decision easily, and to their own best advantage. There is no “best mic” any more than there is a best type of magic. The mic-buying decision must be based on your own needs, and should also be based on a clear understanding of the facts.
Nothing's for sale at MagicRoadie.com. It's just my way of contributing in the best way I can.
Enjoy!
Great site Dan, thanks for the hard work!
Dustin

I've added yet another article to MagicRoadie.com, called "Advancing Your Shows". Even part-time, close-up magicians can borrow a few pages from the contracts the big boys use. "Advancing" is the process of gathering your requirements and speaking with the client to make sure theyre handling all necessary arrangements with regard to your requirements.
Enjoy, and by the way, comments are always welcome!

I've just posted an eighth article at MagicRoadie.com, all about Stage Plots.
Every magician needs a stage plot. A good one isnt difficult to create, and should be very simple, cleanly laid out, and easy to understand. First, we look at some of the rules of thumb regarding formatting & content. Then, we check out a sample stage plot for an illusionist, and one for a close-up, table magician.
By the way, thanks to everyone for your support of my site!
Enjoy!

My friend LORAN has just contributed an article on pyro which includes a lot of the legal ins-and-outs. LORAN is an International Magician & Illusionist and a certified Pyrotechnician who has a tremendously charismatic stage presence!

I hope to have time over the next couple of weeks to write a new article for my "nothing to sell" site, and I'll be entertaining requests regarding subject matter. So far, the articles on MagicRoadie.com include;
Speaker Placement. For superior sound quality, maximum coverage, and increased "gain-before-feedback".
Wireless, Part 1. (July 13 '03) Dispelling several "urban legends" surrounding wireless mic systems.
Wireless, Part 2. Proven advice on how to make your wireless system work as well as possible.
Pick A Mic, Any Mic! (July 10 '03) Learn about the different types of mics, and learn how to choose the best one for you!
Stage Lighting Basics, Part 1. Everything you need to know about the tools of stage lighting.
Stage Lighting Basics, Part 2. How to create an effective stage lighting design.
"Advancing Your Shows. Even part-time, close-up magicians can borrow a few pages from the contracts the big boys use. "Advancing" is the process of gathering your requirements and speaking with the client to make sure theyre handling all necessary arrangements with regard to your requirements.
Stage Plots. A good stage plot isnt difficult to create, and should be very simple, cleanly laid out, and easy to understand. First, well look at some of the rules of thumb regarding formatting & content. Then, well check out a sample stage plot for a stage illusionist, and one for a close-up, table magician.
Pyrotechnics and Stage Effects. My friend LORAN has just contributed an article on pyro which includes a lot of the legal ins-and-outs. LORAN is an International Magician & Illusionist and a certified Pyrotechnician who has a tremendously charismatic stage presence! (Very soon, this article will include some extra info from the encyclopedically knowledgable Steve Zigmont!)

If there's anything you'd like me to cover, please post it here. If I can help, I will: If I don't consider myself knowledgable-enough to offer up my 2 worth, I'm not afraid to say so. Again, as always, if I can help, I will.

Sincerely,
Dan McLean Jr
