Bonjour,
I found that this video is amazingly visual !!
Being myself a true lover of coin magic, I must say that this routine is the best of it's kind I have ever seen...
Coins fun...imho Mr Merrill is using a set of huge trickery coins...?!?
But...knowing Mr Merrill technical abilities, I assume he must do some of his sleights, like sleeving...maybe not...
Am I wrong ?
I know that gaffed coins + sleight of hands = great magic...but here...dunno...I'm stunned !!
Any thoughts ?
PS: I love the "I know how it's done" smile on Mr Maven's face !!
^^

That clip is from one of Tomo Maeda's Japanese TV specials.
Not sure if it's been published. It doesn't appear to be in his lecture notes, Home Schooled. I don't know the contents of the International Magic lecture DVD that's available.

...ha ha, at some points in the routine I'm pretty sure he faints sleights of hand: first he fried me with a pseudo Ramsay subtetly, then he fakes a sleeving just after the third transformation...^^
Well done, Mr Merrill !!
My friend Jean-Pierre Vallarino told me that those coins were for sale here in France, but the dealer is now out of stock...

Richard, thanks for the info...
But I believe that the coins were available.
I'll try to get some more info from Jean-Pierre.
Regards,

He is excellent. He looks like the guy that is getting ready to do your taxes and he kicks you in the head with some great visual sleight of hand. The coin routine looked great.

That is very funny because I know what Rick does for a living, and you're pretty close (he and I work for the same company; just in different states).
My favorite line about Rick, though, is the one I used in the article I did on him in Genii (the person who said it wishes to remain anonymous):
"He looks like the guy who brings the potato salad to the magic club meeting."

Thanks guys. I'll check my local magic shop (he has some of the back issues from this year). If I can't find it there I may have to order one.
