Looking for credits for the book Million Dollar Card Secrets by Frank Garcia

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Quite a bunch of questions..
Most of the stuff I don't care that much about, but on a very few I have some comments..

Re:
1.Chicago Opener, a trick by Al Leech but I don't know where it was first published.

It is said that Al Leech was the first to do similar using a 'stranger card', but Jin Ryan and mainly Frank Everhart (Ivanhoe/Chicago) did popularize the effect.
To the best of my knowledge that handling was first *tipped* -more or less unauthorised- in Frank Garcias *Million Dollar Card secrets*

6. Danbury Delight, Dunbury delight, Charlie Miller, Expert Card Technique

You mean Dunbury Delusion?
That IS Charlie Millers described in Expart Card Technique.
But somehow I think there also existst the title Dunbury Delight, I didn't recheck, all the above and following is written out of memory :(

10. Million Dollar Transposition, Carlyle?

If this is the routine using a doublefacer and an envelop, it is Francis Carlyles and was first written up in Genii, from a manuscript he never published..it's a great routine!

27.Once in a knife-time, ?

I think I recall, I read it in one of Alton Sharpes books, credited to Carl Stenquist, but I'm defintively not sure, I recall a block of cards to *stop* the stab is used, but Ii might confuse it with another routine..the title though *Once in a knifetime* did stuck to my mind, so somewhere I did read up that routine..

Note, Frank Garcia in later books did correct his lack of credit in *Million Dollar Card Secrets*, I assume you did check f.ex. in Super Subtle Card Miracles (I think that was the name) re the book where credit is given to the contents of his earlier book.

Werner,
First of all thank you for taking time to answer me.
1.Chicago Opener
Very interesting to know that Red hot Mamma was first tipped in Million Dollar Card Secrets.
I have always wondered what was the exact patter going with the title red hot Mamma.
6.Yes, sorry, I meant Dunbury Delusion
10.Yes, the routine using doublefacer and an envelop
27.You are right, there is a trick in Expert Card Chicanery by Alton Sharpe P.62 that is called "Once in a Knife Time".
Same name in Million Dollar Card Secrets but different trick.
Concerning the credits in Super Subtle Card Miracles, I sadly don't own this book and thus have no access to the credits.

OK, below inserted in VERY short terms the credit taken from Super Subtle Card Miracles:

1.Chicago Opener, a trick by Al Leech but I don't know where it was first published.

As already mentioned in my last posting.

2.Eye-Mazing, inspired by Surprise Reverse, Off the Top, Marlo

Paul Rosini

3.Perplexing, see Cardician makes Good, New Tops 1963, Marlo

AS you mentioned yourself, Ed Marlo and his lecturenotes of the same title as above.

4. Cut the Kings, ?

Bill Simon's book *Sleightly Sensational* -it's on my shelf :) (but an older principle)

5. Wild Cards, Peter Kane, I don't know when it was first published

Peter Kane, Hugards Magic Monthly April 62

6. Danbury Delight, Dunbury delight, Charlie Miller, Expert Card Technique

Dai Vernon's variation of Charlie Millers Dunbury delusion.

7. Impromptu Card Rise, ?

Jack Mc Millan's plunger principle, the disengagement idea is Dai Vernons.

8. Three in a Million, ?

An *oldie*, no real credit here.

9. Switchcraft, Anneman ? Scarne?

Ted Anneman. Using a glass-idea is John Scarne's.

10. Million Dollar Transposition, Carlyle?

As mentioned Francis Carlyle.. Johnny Paul, Jim Ryan and Jimmy Grippo did it too.

11.Eight Card Brain-Wave, Nick Trost, I don't know when it was first published.

Based on Ed Marlo's olram principle.

I give up..too much to type, forth and back from the book, sorry :(
Get the book..all the above is out of it.. :)

12. Razzle Dazzle, ?
Bob Driebeck of Holland
aso. aso, it's all in that book..

It is my understanding that the credits to Million Dollar published in Super Subtle were culled from a letter to Garcia by Jon Racherbaumer, is that true, Jon?

You are right, Richard.
I read that in one of Racherbaumer's magazine : Hierophant or Kabbala, or Sticks and Stones.

Werner,
4.Cut the Kings, ?
Bill Simon's book *Sleightly Sensational* -it's on my shelf (but an older principle)

Yes, Frank Garcia's trick seems to be inspired by "The Mathemagician", Sleightly Sensational, Bill Simon

12. Razzle Dazzle, ?
Bob Driebeck of Holland

I think Driebeek's trick is called Tosheroon but I don't know where it was first published.

Tosheroon was published in The Gen, Vol 23, N11, March 1968, page 250.
