Finn Jon's Elastic Loops

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Finn Jon's Elastic Loops

Postby Richard Perrin » November 3rd, 2007, 9:40 am

I have a Mesika Elastic thread in front of me and I am trying to make a Finn Jon's Loop but I could not able to tied the knot. Is there a link or book or something that I can look'em up? HELP! I used to have several loops I bought long time ago but they kept breaking.

Thank you for your time.

Haven't heard from the replies since I posted this above. Hate to see my product goes waste or collect some dust.

I discovered a little trick the last time I was struggling with tying knots in invisible thread.

cut a thin strip of scotch tape and attach to the end of the thread, then fold it over, sealing the end of the thread inside the tape. Do this to both ends.

Now it is much easier to handle the ends of the thread for tying. Of course, you cut off these tape ends once it is tied. You lose a one inch bit of thread, but I could tie the ends much faster. Without this, it is frustrating to find and push the ends through a loop you are tying.

hope this helps.

A wee dob of wax helps, too.

Take care, Ian

It also helps if you use a white surface and a lot of light. If you are tying the loops around a bottle, get a white bottle.

Bill,
Thank you for your reply. On one question, what kind of white bottle? I have never see one here in or nearby Augusta, Georgia!

You might end up too drunk to tie the loops.
You can also cover any bottle with white paper.

Yea its hard to tie knots in them threads. Espcially Misakas Elastics. I got hundred feet of that stuff collecing dust too. I tried wax like Mr. Kendall suggested but havent tried using tape yet(cant believe i didnt think of trying that). But anyways little of the subject here, is there anywhere on the forum here about I.T. ? I tried using the search feature but didnt work for me. It gave me link to thread as in posting thread forums. I hardly use I.T. except for like haunted pack and and other simple animation effects.
