About Copyright and translations of books

Postby Ricky Difeo » February 4th, 2004, 11:26 am

Hi!

I want to say about translations of books and problems with copyright.

I love the magic, especially the closeup magic and I have 200 magic books approximately in english.-

She/he wanted to know if some problem exists in to publish the translation of the one book to Spanish and to publish it.
As I can discover on the rights of the same one. -
Ej.: Efective Card magic - Bill Simon .this book is of Editorial Tanen and copyright 1980. -

Thank you

If you wish to translate and publish a new version of the book, you will need to contact the current copyright owner (which in this case appears to be Tannen's) and talk with them about obtaining the rights to translate/publish.

That book has entered the public domain and been reprinted by Dover books under a different title.

If it is in the public domain, it is only in the public domain in the U.S. -- it may still be covered by copyright outside the U.S., so a translation in a foreign country would still need the permission of the copyright owner.
