movie studios & record companies

Hi I have a question regarding movie studios. I know that people who live in La or NY have performed for movie studios or record companies like Universal, Epic, Paramount Pictures and so on. My question is how do you go about booking these gigs? Direct mail like you would to companies? Agents? Referrals or word of mouth? I am in La and interested in doing some shows for some movie companies. They have a lot of events where magic can be used, especially close up magic.
