percent of gig types?

Point of curiosity - of the gigs you do, what percent are of what type? ie. what percent are restaurant gigs, corporate parties/hospitality suite, trade shows, festivals, community events, stage shows (short spots, full shows etc.), private parties/weddings, charity events.

Next question: in a perfect world, would you change the balance?

I think I have gone full gamit here. I used to do 80% restaurant gigs with 20% private parties, then moved into Corporate work where I gradually moved from the restaurant work to almost 80% corporate and about 20% clubs such as comedy clubs. At present I do about 40% trade shows and Corporate parties and about 40% club gigs (in casinos and such)and in festivals and fairs. The remaining 20% is private parties, short television appearances, etc.

As for changing the balance, yes, as I have done before I will tinker with it again but only to slow it all down into a semi-working role - life is too short to tour all the time working and not enjoying life too, and face it, when you do this for a living, it is the greatest job in the world BUT it is still work.

Paul - Thanks for the reply. I'll actually be back in Calgary for a holiday in October. Are there any restaurants now featuring magicians in the city? I might check one out if there are.

And I'm still interested to hear other people's responses to the initial question!

Here's my stats:

60% are for companies throwing a party for their employees
25% are private parties (weddings, birthdays etc)
6% Company kick-off/seminars etc
4% Tradeshows
4% TV stuff
1% miscellaneous

Would I change this percentage in a perfect world? Difficult question. The company gigs pays the bills whereas the private jobs are usually more fun. I don't miss the trade shows since they're mostly hard work, but I'd like to do more TV.
