Is this a "theoretical"? Are you speaking Stand-up Mentalism?

Off the top of my head, with zero props, or with materials that could be found at a gig, for stand-up performances...

Psychokinetic Touches, Banachek
Card Memory, Cassidy
Contimental, Maven
Chair Effect, Banachek
Psychological Forces (various)
Predict Tac Toe, Osterlind
Name / Place Routine, Cassidy
Clip Line, Spackman
Scatterbrain, Harkey

Looks like if you had the ability, one could put together quite a show, even on the spot.

Q & A (with or without billets), psychometry, contact mind reading, and hypnosis (or at least "waking" hypnosis stunts) are the first ones that come to mind requiring nothing. Others that come to mind include: comes PK Time and PK Touches, In Search of the Unknown Force, Add a number (without a gimmicked pad), pendulum effects, Georgia Magnet Act (or parts of it), levitating an audience member (ala Hilford), What's My Sign?, Cassidy's Name and Place routine, an ungimmicked booktest (ala Busch), pulse reading, I'll get them all (ala Lenier), Sneak Thief (ala Becker - a makeshift cardboard one), Cinderella Act (ala Hilford), my Living and Dead Test, keeping an eye out for anything you can take credit for, and for your finish - "Hurling the Headlines".

All of the above require either nothing OR paper, pen/pencil, a single deck of cards, a cloth bandana (blindfold), any paperback book, a spiral notepad, a finger ring (or similar weighted object) and a string or a small chain, and a newspaper. All of thse can be purchased at a local convenience store or office supply shop for next to nothing.

Neither of those are mentalism nor are they even mentalism related.

Card Memory,
More mentalism, less cards
Actually this memory stunt fits very well within the context of the mentalism based show.

Chair Effect, Banachek
What is that?
I quess you could say a near "bank night" plot with numbered chairs on stage. From the booklet Pre-Thoughts

Predict Tac Toe, Osterlind
I saw it on tape
I don't think it is magic
This would make for a *very* entertaining, and impossible piece on stage.

Clip Line, Spackman
Newspaper?
Yes, the clasic cutting a newspaper article, and line revelation.

Scatterbrain, Harkey
never heard about it
A presentational gem from the oft berated book "Ah Ha!" Requires some simple pre-show work.

Let me add few

Psychokinetic Time, Banachek
Yes a fine effect.

What's my sign ,Grishmer
Another good one. You may wish to look into Doug Dyment's "Sign Language" as a refined work.

Paper balls over the head= Teleportation
Maybe to the one person on stage, but certainly not the rest of the audience.

Twisted arm, Meir Yedid= Yoga
The Twisting Arm Illsuion is Shinkoh Nagisa's creation. It maybe could be applied as a geek like effect. Maybe. I suppose it depends on the part of the world you are performing, your character, and the context within the show.

Scatterbrain is a bold adaptation of a Maurice Fogel effect.

As the audience sees...

An audience member concentrates on a single word from an entire newspaper sheet. Free choice.

The performer rips the paper in half, and asks an another audience member to choose either half. The other is crumpled up and discarded.

This continues until only a strip remains. It is torn to pieces. Another audience member selects any piece, The others are discarded. Yet another audience member points to any word on the small square of paper.

This word it written on a dry erase board. The original audience member reveals their thoughts, and it is found to be a correct match.

This effect has many different presentational possibilities; synchronicity, chance, mental influence, etc. The strength of the effect, besides its impossibility, is its visceral presentation, and use of multiple audience members.

In the book AH-HA!

Also be sure to look over Paul Alberstat's suggestions again. Some excellent material.

Ah-Ha! Has some of the best material for any type of performing situation. Not only will you find Scatterbrain a gem, but there are also many other routines perfect for stand up mentalism. One of the things that many people leave out is that the book is a compliation between David Harkey and Eric Anderson. Many of the routines in the book are used all the time by Eric in his corporate and stand up performances, so you know you are getting real workers. Last time Eric was here in San Diego (he is originally from here), I had the chance to hang out with him and watch him perform. He is honestly one of the best magicians I have ever seen. If anybody ever has the chance to see him dont miss it.

Getting back to the original question. It is my opinion that if you lose your stuff, and you cannot walk into any drugstore or Wal-Mart, and put together a one-hour show, then you are a beginner. A rank beginner at that.

What's the difference between a beginner and a rank beginner?

And is this necessarily a bad thing?

The poor guy lost his case. Get off it...

I didn't mean to sound offensive. I just meant that if you lose your case, it shouldn't matter. Just run to a drugstore, and put together a new act. I have had to do that on more than one occasion.

Search for the Unknown Force is from Richard Busch's new booklet "Number... Please?" Highly Recommended for all its contents.

You may wish to check out this Magic Cafe link, for a great deal of information and reviews of the booklet's material.

I never LOST my stuff, but I used to do a weekly family show (we needed the money). Sometimes in my haste out the door, I left my stuff behind. I would go to Wal-Mart, and buy materials for T&R Newspaper, Rope (For the Tabary Rope Act, Cut and Restored, and Proffessor's Nightmare), Cards, Half Dollars, etc. The show was only half an hour long, but could be stretched to a full hour if I needed to. The show was not as good as my normal show (IMO), but the audience didn't know that.
