I was wondering if anyone could reccommend a good mentalism effect. I am just starting out doing them and only have a chalk board with three slots for predictions. i enjoy that one but want to expand. Looking to buy something else. any ideas? thanks

Although this request is for marketed effect suggestions, the question as posed seems to suggest a want of basic grounding in the field.

So I'll recommend these two foundational books:

- Annemann, Practical Mental Magic ($12.95 Dover paperback available anywhere)
- Corinda, 13 Steps to Mentalism ($25 new from your favorite dealer)

It sounds like you are doing stage mental magic.

In that case, you may want to go for a Bank Nite effect.

Its a tough call, but I think you will like Danny Archers Big Bill (the one on the download as opposed to the abbreviated version in the lecture notes.)

There are some excellent mental magic to add to a show, it all depends upon your syle and personality as some effects that work fr me may not be suitable for you. One that is easily adaptable to pretty much anyone's style is "Confabulation" is a true classic of magic, has incredible impact and packs flat for easy of carrying in any kind of show.

If as you state you are just starting out what material have you studied regarding mentalism? Please notice that I said studied not READ. No one can become a performer by just wanting to be. It is not like taking a Tenyo product and calling yourself a magician. Please delay the mentalism desire until you have become well versed in it's basics.

Mentalism is all about your personality that u want to project and your presentation. Its sadly not about tricks...if u understand what I mean.
Both Corrinda and Annemann's books would be a good beginning......

I second Danny Archer's Big Bill. It's really fun to perform and packs small/plays big.
