mental card tricks
I am looking to collect methods of card at any number. I have Barry Richardson's book. Are there any other good sources for this trick?

Re: mental card tricks
What comes to mind is:
Aronson Approach
Sinfona en mnemnica mayor (Tamariz)
of course The Mind & Magic of David Berglas
There are those routines that have a slightly different flair because the card is chosen well in advance of the number like the "A card at any Number" in Hollingworth's Drawing Room Deceptions or Vernon's "Slap Trick" in Vol.2 of the Chronicles.
Other perhaps only related effects:
FASDIU II (Cummins) (AACAAAN 1 & 2)
Swinford has some curiosities in Faro Fantasy and More Faro Fantasy using the Colour Coded Control Cards...
Slap Me Again (Slap Trick Variation) in "Classic Magic of Larry Jennings"

Hi there,
there is another version in one of the Books by Ken Krenzel.
And then Al Baker published a version.
@ Denis, makes me wounder that you forgot about them, but i guess you can fill in the Blanks concerning the exact books :)
Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks
Re: mental card tricks
Barrie Richardson has an Impromptu Card at Any Number that is not in his book. He demonstarted it as the last trick in his lecture at The Magic Castle yesterday. It's easy, clean, and a worker. It can be done with a borrowed deck.

Re: mental card tricks
Barrie's Card At Any Number was published in Repro 71 a few months ago. Walt Lees edits that British pub. Barrie, Peter Duffie, Phil Goldstein, and Peter Kane are frequent contributors.
Years ago I dubbed this effect the Berglas Effect.

Krenzel's interesting method should be in Close Up Impact and I have to disappoint again since I cannot provide a source for the Baker method...

Re: mental card tricks
Seems a good place to bring up the new al baker book that was advertised in Genii recently. I'm sure many of us are looking forward to the books being made available. I remember when it was brought up a few months ago, Richard Kaufman said something to the effect that it was too much of a hassle to get the rights and pay everyone that wanted paid to make a reprint worth doing.
Makes me wonder if this new book is legitimate and how they are doing it.

To the best of my knowledge, Todd Karr, whose Miracle Factory is publishing the Al Baker book, took the trouble to obtain all the rights. A certain magazine editor of our acquaintance discovered about 100 unpublished Al Baker tricks which he forwarded to Todd.
The resulting book, which had been advertised at $90 in pre-publication ads, has gotten so big that Todd was forced to raise the price -- those who ordered early are getting a great bargain.

Re: mental card tricks
There is quite some Baker material in The Sphinx. I wonder if that was included in the Baker antology.
The best Al Baker quote I know: "The only one who can fool a magician is a magic dealer."

Re: mental card tricks
I was in Vegas on business during the WMS and got a chance to drop by. I purchased Paramiracles because it was cheaper than the DVD's and I could read it before I got home. This has a compilation of good mental card tricks. I dont know whats on the DVD's versus the book but the book is extremely well written. Everything is clearly explained and I rather enjoyed reading it.
Re: mental card tricks
It seems the most straightforward version is in The New York Magic Symposium - The Collection Four
p. 77 In The Shadow Of The Synchronous. Of course you'll have to do some memorization, but that's a different subject altogether . . . and there's some good discussion and references under the Close Up Magic section under memorized decks. Anyway, this method is certainly worth researching. It doesn't get much more straightforward than this. Enjoy!

Re: mental card tricks
Ted Lesley has a version included with his "Working MENTALISTS marked deck" and I too have a version in "Can you keep a secret?". With Ted's version, he also includes his "memorized deck" system which is incredibly easy to learn and retain.
