In a word, it was great! There is a long thread discussing this at the Magic Cafe forum. If you go there and write "MIndvention" into the search engine, you'll be able to read all the comnments.

The discussion at the green place is mostly by folks who did not attend the convention....My question is whether or not it was financially successful enough for the convention to be held next year...

For some reason, there is no discussion about the lectures which cost extra. We all hear that Brad did a good job, but he was not paid extra, like some of the lecturers were....How did that go?

I guess the question I have is whether or not the "extra" lectures were worth the extra money???

It was quite successful, Opie. I wrote it up for the January MAGIC and give the attendance figures there, but don't recall it now (more than 100, less than 200, I believe). Robert Allen and Danny Archer are planning to do it again next year, but at a different venue, presumably the same place as the next LVMI if that proves to be a good place.

Richard, if you say it was good, I have to put it on my "want-to-do" list....Thanks....

But you did not say anything about any of the "extra" lecturers...I really would like your opinion of why conventions are being held for a certain price, and then they charge extra for "name" lecturers...

I remember when conventions were put on by magicians at cost for fellow magicians...Are there maybe too many "professional" convention magicians...

Any comments on that subject?

I don't believe there were any "extra charge" events at this. I believe there might have been at an earlier LVMI or COINvention, but I didn't attend those. As far as I recall, all the lectures and performances were available to all registrants at no additional charge. The final "all star" event was also open to a few laymen and VIP guests who were not convention registrants, but that helped fill the venue and given more "real world" responses for the performers...

Yes, call me old fashion, but I would be highly disturbed if I spend all the money it would take to attend an event like this then found out the advertised "name" lectures were extra.

There were no extra charge events at mindvention.

You can read more at:

17 of the 29 posts were by people who attended.

Sadly that involves going to the magic cafe!

Hey Guys,

Brad and Richard are right ... there were no extra charge events at 2004 MINDvention and none are planned for this year ... I was planning to wait a bit until the web site has been updated, but I'll let the cat out of the bag ... we are reprising MINDvention for 2005 ... dates Nov 13-15th at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV ...

Agreeing to lecture and perform are: Banachek, Bruce Bernstein, Lee Earl, Larry Becker, Barrie Richardson, Harvey Berg and Richard Osterlind (if Richards schedule permits)

the new venue will allow for much improved conditions and we are considering a host of suggestions to make an outstanding event even better ... more info will follow when I have it ...

Someone felt the need to send me an email because of my previous post here.
I simply stated I would not be happy to go to a convention and find that to participate with some of the bigger names I would have to pay extra.
I did not say that it did happen.

Kim2, your initial post was either badly written or specifically trying to give the impression that Mindvention had many "extra" charge events. There were no extra charge events, so why in the world would you even make the comment in this thread about Mindvention?

I certainly see no place where I did either.
As I said, all I did was voice an opinion about paying extra.Nowhere did I say that it happened here ( Mindvention).
As to why I made the comment in this thread, I was just responding to what someone else had said, I did not make the statement or suggestion that Mindvention had done such a thing. I just added my 2 cents worth about ANY event that would do it.
Im sorry if I failed to make myself clear and I apologize to any I may have offended.
Kim
Edit: After rereading my original post I can see how what I said was misconstrued.Again, my apologies.
