Original set of Will Goldston's "Magician Annual" for sale

Postby Richard Kaufman » February 12th, 2004, 9:52 pm

Offered for sale is a rare set of original copies of Will Goldston's books, "The Magician Annual."
This set consists of the first five volumes. The six volume (easily obtainable elsewhere) is lacking.
One usually finds these books in dreadful condition since their bindings were weak. This particular set is in excellent condition. Individual descriptions follow.
1) The Magician's Annual 1907-1908. Original red cloth binding as issued by the publisher. Various water marks and stains on the front cover, lower right corner a bit dinged, however the binding is tight and complete.
The interior is pristine.
2) The Magician's Annual 1908-1909. Original SOFTCOVER wraps as issued by the publisher (very rare), bound in red buckram at a later date with gold foil stamping on the front and spine. The original color paper cover has a horizontal tear several inches long, some staining on the edge from an old piece of tape that is no longer there, and other small marks along the edge. It is, however, complete and in otherwise good colorful condition. The back paper cover is a bit dirty. The interior is in very good condition with a slight bit of dirt on the title page.
3) The Magician's Annual 1909-1910. Original red cloth binding as issued by the publisher, with elaborate gold and white foil stamping on the front and spine. The front cover has dirt and a few stains, and much of the white stamping has come off. The binding is tight and in excellent condition. The interior is in very good condition. (Note that this is the edition with the photo of Austen Temple, and not the the pudgy Mrs. Noakes, on p.62.) Includes color Frontispiece.
4) The Magician's Annual 1910-1911. Original red cloth binding as issued by the publisher, with elaborate black, white, and gold foil stamping on the front. Some of the black and while stamping has rubbed off. There is some dirt and a few small stains on the cover. The binding is tight and in excellent condition. The interior is in superb condition. Includes Color Frontispiece.
5) The Magician's Annual 1911-1912. Original red cloth binding as issued by the publisher, with elaborate white, black, and gold foil stamping on the front. Some of the white stamping has rubbed off, and there is a bit of dirt and a few stains on the cover. The binding is tight and in excellent condition. The interior is in superb condition. Contains all three color plates.
Also included in this sale are duplicate copies of the 1909-1910 and 1911-1912 books, with loose tatty bindings which are falling apart. The interior of the books is in fine condition and would make a nice decoupage project.
All seven books for $600.
