Swann Magic Auction

Postby Kevin Connolly » September 22nd, 2004, 5:05 pm

Just checking to see who is going to the Swann auction next month. They are going to have some nice material available. Some items are a Kellar scrapbook, Herrmann scrapbook, Houdini items and some nice condition magic books.

Best Always,
Kevin

Kevin: Can't find the auction catalog online yet. Are you quoting from the Trumpet, a consignor, or just "in the know"? :) Clay

P.S. Hopefully HGCR has reached your doorstep by now.

Clay,

Let's say I have the inside track. There will be a set of Goldston's and the Blitz book that should interest you.

Yes the book showed up and is very nice. I didn't see the other book we talked about though.

Best Always,

Kevin

The Swann catalog arrived today. There are a little fewer than four hundred items, including some interesting Herrmann, Kellar, Thurston & Houdini ephemera and a range of antiquarian magic books. This year's auction is a bit light on posters and periodicals and very little apparatus, though there is a large section on games and gaming.

Yes, they just listed it. Shame they can't spring with some more pictures.

There seems to be quite a bit of stuff from the Carl W. Jones library including lots of interesting Hilliard stuff. Anyone know if the Jones family is letting this go, or if it came from another source? I understand many (most?) of Jones' antiquarian books were bequeathed to Princeton University. Has anyone checked out their magic holdings?

I heard mentioned that it was his family too. BUT, I also heard this material is from his former secretary. I'll go with the latter.

The Swann stuff is now available for bidding on eBay via their "Live Auctions" option. That should save some airfares! It will be interesting to see how it impacts prices realized. Here's a link to the eBay version of the Swann magic catalog:
