Jamy Ian Swiss published a series of columns ('Shattering Illusions') in "Genii" between June 1993 and May 1994. Part of this series included a two-part column on the history of bar magic in North America.

This would be an excellent point to start your research from.

A great bar magic video is a recent release
of the Tom Mullica BASH Highlights from Hobson Enterprises. This is a compilation of NOT broadcast quality snips from the sort of annual get-togethers Mullica staged at his Tomfoolery bar during the late '70's early '80's.

There is some really good magic from the likes of Paul Gertner, Roger Klause, et.al.
Plus a goodly amount of horseplay, comedy, and goofiness.

One sequence features a young man R. Kaufmann who does an OTHERWORLDLY sleight-of-hand card trick.

My favorite is a guy I never heard of named Paul Diamond; If you think Lennart Green is original, look at this guy.

Plus, Jeff Hobson and Tom Mullica are entertaining in their ramp-ups and segues.
I've spent thirty scoots on worse. Get it, barflys. . .

Yah but it's not bar magic per se... you wanna get Mullica's older tapes from the Tom Foolery... and anything Doc Eason mighta been in...not to mention the KING Bob Sheets.
Stay tooned.
