Can some wise person please tell me when and where the Hunter Knot first appeared in print?

I'm not sure if it was the first appearance in print, but it's in "Abbott's Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks", compiled by Stewart James, which I believe was first published in 1941.

There's a whole chapter on the Hunter Knot and variations in Karl Fulves' "Self Working Rope Tricks".

Thanks Edwin. I'm wondering if the routine may have appeared in a British magazine before those?

That I wouldn't know. I did find another reference in Denis Behr\'s database to a prior appearance in Tarbell Vol. 3 (1927).
