Has anyone heard of this "Magician?"

Balloonist : The Story of T S C Lowe - Inventor, Scientist, Magician, and Father of the US Air Force

I came across him during my search for "Kengorn."

George

For your search here are a few possible helps. His full name was Thaddeus Sobieski Coulincourt Lowe. He is best know for his brave acts as a Balloonist during the Civil Car spotting troop movements for the North. The army commissioned several balloons, which were under his command. I have no information on him as a magician but he was very well known and probably in newspaper accounts of the day circa 1860s to 1870s.

Several books have been written about him. He was a strikingly handsome man, which if he did magic could not have hurt. PBS's History Detectives ran a segment on someone who had a piece of one of Lowe's balloons. Below is a link to a Harpers Weekly featuring him and his balloon from 1861.
