New home for the Magic Timeline

Postby Joe Pecore » September 27th, 2006, 5:37 am

I was having lots of trouble keeping the timeline tool up and running on my free yahoo.com website.

I worked with Chris Wasshuber over at lybrary.com to give it a better home.

We integrated the timelines I've already done with all the ebooks he sells at http://www.lybrary.com/timeline.php

I'm hoping this will be a useful research tool for magic historians.

If you have ideas for other kinds of magic related events, send me an email. I'd be glad to help add any new ones.

Thanks again to David Alexander for providing the initial timeline data when I got started on this project and to Chris Wasshuber for giving it a suitable home.

Works fine in my FireFox, though I'm on version 2.0, beta 2.

I can't get it to work in Explorer. It says:

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

We are currently moving servers. Once the move is finished you will again be able to access the timeline. I am sorry for the timeout in the timeline.

The timeline is again working properly. (The Lybrary.com website itself is still not yet fully functional, but hopefully will be in a few hours.)

If you want to check it out please go to http://www.lybrary.com/timeline.php

A big thank you to Joe, who discovered this wonderful application and who did all the legwork to get this working properly and start to populate the timeline data. Now that we are on a new server it should be even faster.

It is a wonderful tool to browse information from a time perspective, which you typically can't do easily anywhere else.

I consider the timeline still in beta release. There is a lot of data which has to be added and I am still tweaking certain look and feel and usability features. I hope that many of you will contribute data. For example, we currently have all the Kaufman books and Lybrary.com ebooks captured, but not other publishers. This could even be the home of an entire bibliography. Also important world events and events in magicdom should be fleshed out. Any suggestions and comments are as always highly welcome.

Best,
Chris

Yes sorry, the site is again down. There are still problems with the new server. I hope this is soon resolved. Will post here once the move to the new server is finalized.

Chris....
