Write to Bart Whaley, 1416 Pine Street, Key West, Florida 33040 for the CD-Version of 2001.

Bart has been a west coast resident now for several years. To my knowledge, the 2001 work is no longer available on CDROM (unless you get it from someone else). I spoke with Bart in the last year and I know that he is working on updated PDF editions of both Who's Who and the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Magic, but at this time he has no set release date.

A busy teacher and consultant, I know that Bart wants to put out the most useful product he can, but also wants to make sure that the integrity of his work does not suffer due to haste.

Hunt the earlier versions down, they are great resources!

Be aware of the fact that the electronic editions of the Ecyclopedic Dctionary of Magic which, along with Who's Who, I heavily rely on when I'm doing editing work, has problems when used with editions of Windows after Windows 98.

Fortunately, nutcase that I am, I printed the whole thing out when I first purchased it so I've got a hard copy. I contacted the Whaleys who told me that they had no update or "fix" for the problem.

Matt,

Bart's CD-Dictionary makes difficulties with my WINDOWS XP Home Edition, but the WHO'S WHO don't make difficulties!

Reinhard -- It's the same with mine. "Who's Who" on CD works fine with Windows XP Home. I also bought the Busby edition of the Who's Who.

I should note that while Bart Whaley's remarkable reference book is an invaluable asset and a wonderful piece of research, the electronic version -- even when working properly -- has a very limited search capability. I find that the printed version more readily meets my needs in many instances...though the CD-ROM does update the work and corrects some previous errors. My advice: get both! ;)

I found I had same problem when I bought the CD of Who's Who directly from Mr. Whaley on eBay!

Because it was the author himself, I attributed problem to my infernal Windows machine and never even mentioned it to him.

I have the hard copy from Busby, but I wanted something more durable. (I have the paperback edition.)

This was some time ago, so I will have to try it again with XP.

We have print copies of Whaley's WHO'S WHO and the two Vomume ENCYCLOPEDIA that we will be putting on E-bay in a day or two. When we do we will announce it in the Marketplace section.

I must say that the five most used reference works in my libary are Bart Whaley's Who's Who in Magic, my files of The Sphinx, David Price's Magic: A Pictorial History of Conjurers in the Theater, George Daily and Jim Alfredson's A Bibiliography of Corjuring Periodicals in English (1791-1983) (now augment by Fr. Stephen Fernades' Magic Magazines of the Second Millenium), and my file of Genii.

And another at:

It is scheduled to end on 01/04/05 and is currently at about half the cost of the one Michael mentioned.
