Does anyone know what type of cane Mr Kaps used for his vanishing cane in newspaper? I assume it was black too..just curious of what type.

Re: Fred Kaps Cane
Kaps used a metal Walsh-style disappearing cane. And you are right the colour was black.

Koornwinder was the name I was going to suggest contacting... and he beat me to it. Yes, Kaps used a Walsh black metal cane.
I'm not sure how many he had, because as a younger perfromer he used appearing canes as a "running gag" with many of the appearing throughout his act. They would "surprise" him and he would just throw them off.

Stay tooned.

There are several appearing canes as standard dealer items these days. Does anyone have a brand they feel looks nice and is reliable?

I usually try to find a good condition Walsh cane on one of the auction sites. They come up for auction more often then you might think.
Viking also has a good metal appearing cane however they are temporarily out of stock at this time.
Our magic club, Ring 333 (The Fox Ring), is having a magic flea market and auction this Sunday. If you are interested I could check to see if anyone has a Walsh cane. Just e-mail me at antonygerard@msn.com if interested.
