"The Magician" on DVD

Postby Terry » November 3rd, 2007, 4:44 pm

Was searching the net for the possibility that the old Green Hornet series was on DVD and found this company offering 'The Magician' series starring Bill Bixby.

I don't know if it is a legit company or if they have an agreement to produce the DVD's. There was no physical address I could find, just an email address.

If anyone knows who the copyright holder is, you may want to forward the information to them.

I want a DVD set of the show, but will wait for the official distribution.

There is some sort of problem with "rights issues" regarding both the Batman and Green Hornet TV series. They know they could sell plenty of them, but some kind of legal problem is preventing release or they would have been out by now.

One of the problems with both Batman and the Green Hornet is that one studio owns the episodes and another studio owns the characters. the two entities cant agree on how to split the proceeds. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. The reason it took so long for Moonlighting to come to DVD was the fact that they wanted to use the original music and they held out until they could afford it. When WKRP in Cincinatti came to dvd it was released with Replacement music because they couldn't afford the rights to the original music. Some TV series are now being put on dvd Without even their own THEME songs because they cant afford the rights.

It's a shame the attorneys can't get it worked out. With the garbage that is being shoved down our throats as "entertainment", I would like my 3 year old son to experience and enjoy what original television used to be like.

I grew up on Batman, Green Hornet, Wild Wild West and Dark Shadows. We restrict his TV to the Disney channel, Disney DVD's, VegeTales DVD's, etc.

I have been able to locate some old Superman and Popeye cartoons, Mighty Mouse, Casper on DVD's sold at Cracker Barrel restaurants.

This is information supplied by a member on another board:

They're bootleggers, basically recording them off the TV.

I saw the DVD set of The Magician that is now being sold. These were taken off the SciFi Channel when they ran them a few years ago. You see the Sci Fi emblem in the corner on each episode.
Supposedly, these dealers are charging only for the blank disc, the artwork they may be suppling on the disc label and case, and a small cost for their time to copy and mail.

Terry, that information you gave is not for the same website listed in your initial posting, and www.tvondvd.com is now gone.

while we're on the subject of Magician/mystery series, anyone watch Jonathon Creek? There isnt a LOT of magic in them but there is some and they are pretty entertaining locked room mysteries besides. The first two seasons are out on dvd. I know that in Britian they won best crime drama during one year of its run. There were 4 seasons. 25 episodes with two xmas episodes.

Doesn't PBS sell these on their website? We sporadically get their catalog and the name seemed familiar.
