P&T have no respect for anything, they have exhibited that in there magic,TV shows, they drag religion down the tubes and now there pulling all magician's in with them by advertising on a Porno site Sin City ,I guess they do have a God " MONEY" and they don't give a damn who or what they hurt to get it. They may be laughing all the way to the bank butt to live an eternity in hell ( which they don't beleive in) is it really worth it

Paul, your post is misguided. "Sin City" was the name of their old TV show on FOX FX and www.sincity.com was the address of their old website. They have a new website, and when you go to the old one you will indeed find an adult site, but it appears to have nothing to do with Penn & Teller other than that the company's name is Sin City. There is a box at the top of Sin City's website directing you to P&T's new site.

Some years back a guy I know at a convention saw an older amateur magician escorting a beautiful and voluptuous young woman around. The young woman was beseiged by magicians asking her for her autograph.

My friend asked who it was and learned it was Christy Canyon, a famous porno star, recognized by many of the guys at the magic convention. Clearly, Penn and Teller aren't leading magicians "into temptation." Many are already there.

Believe me I am no prude and enjoy looking at any good looking babe especialy nude but I found P&T on the site through the links site I clicked on and there they were, the site advertizes porno and there name is at the top like you say but it doe't make it right or look good for magic. Usually every barrel has a rotten apple and I guesss there the one. I don't see the Genii advertzing any porn or Magic, and the Linking Ring or MUM it may help pay the bills but it wouldn't be good for the long haul, Las Vegas is sin city but even they are trying to clean up there act and make it a family destination just like NYC is cleaning up times square Lets quit the Bull*&%# Magic is supposed to be Family oriented and the acts that are pulling in the money has a clean act and how many out there are making aliving doing kids shows and birthday parties and there the ones buying 90% of the magic books and tricks and magazines not P&T. Try to read through and between the lines P&T needs an all around tune up

Actually, I disagree with this 100%. Magic, like any other art, isn't supposed to be anything aside from what the performer wants it to be. Performance is about conveying emotion, whether it be laughter, tears, love, hate, or whatever. I may not agree with the emotions other performers attempt to convey, but that doesn't mean that I should tell them what they should or should not do with their performances.

I'll agree that a clean act will have wider appeal then one that's not. However, that doesn't make the unclean act any less valid. It's just a matter of performing it for the right audience. P&T know their audience. They're not called the "Bad Boys of Magic" for nothing. And they're hardly starving.

Paul, your posts really make no sense: you obviously do not understand what you are looking at on the Internet. Penn & Teller are not advertising pornography: their OLD website address has seemingly been bought by someone else who has allowed them to place a banner at the top of the page so people who are looking for P&T can find their new website.
And magic doesn't have to be family oriented if both the perfomer(s) and the audience have an implicit agreement in advance that it will be of an adult nature.

Well...after perusing 'Magic magazine' today (Sorry Mr. Kaufman-Not sure if it is okay to discuss the competition.) and seeing the blurb about P+T doing their sex act parody with Jesus at the roast they damn well lost all my respect.

I used to talk them up but unless what I read is a complete lie I'll never promote them to my friends again. I'm not Christian but it was in very bad taste.

Idiots.

Paul,

A couple of years ago it was announced, by the pope, if I remember correctly, that hell does not exist.

Uh, Pete, let's not get too far from that fact that, until just a few years ago, the Vatican's official position was that Nicholas Copernicus's discovery that the earth revolved around the sun was heresy.

Let's check in with the pope in four hundred years and see what's what, shall we? <g>

Paul:

Religion has not been "pulled down the tubes."
Jesus and God have not been harmed.
Civilization is not going to fall because of bad taste.

I was at the roast. The Penn & Teller piece did make me wince. Seeing the image of Christ ridiculed and humiliated was painful. But I have to admit that the sheer audacity of the skit made me smile.

I know that Jonathon and Penn & Teller are athiests, and have a great deal of anger at the church and the faith of Christians. Some of it deserved. We should remember what the church has sometimes done to stifle freedom of thought and the rights of others to pursue happiness as they saw fit.

Whenever we Christians have tried to defend God or religion, we have made the biggest mistakes in the history of the church--the Crusades, the Inquisition, the witch trials, etc.

Humor that is shocking, offensive, and in bad taste is very important to the health of society, and even to the health of the church. Christians should learn to be able to take it with humility and patience when it is turned on them. Sometimes, we can learn and grow ourselves from having our pride pricked, or our stuffiness mocked.

The response of the "ayatollahs" of the world who demand that anyone who questions or ridicules the "faith" should be put to death is one of fear and insecurity--it is not the response of true faith.

It assumes that God needs our help and protection. That somehow Christians can be shaken or weakened in their faith because someone dares to question or ridicule it. What weakness!

Whenever God or Christ is attacked, ridiculed, or questioned, it is good for the cause. People are wrestling with the questions of faith. The worst that can happen is for God to be ignored.

So, everyone lighten up. It was a joke. It may have bruised some sensitivities, but it did not hurt anyone. Love bears all things, and whenever the cross is raised, people will be drawn to Christ. I have never heard so much discussion about Jesus at a magic convention as I did at WMS. Rejoice, brethren. Relax.

I am still a big fan of Penn & Teller and the Amazing Jonathon. Their bold, take no prisoners brand of humor is refreshing, and I think very important to the health of the world and to the faith as well.

Mr. Hayden,

The intolerance that was expressed by this 'joke' as you would put it I hardly find to be harmless.

It is true that harmful things have been done in the name of religion. But so have things been done by anti-religion proponents.

When the Nazi party were mocking the Jews I am sure there were individuals that thought it was harmless also. So I don't think you can say 'Humor that is shocking, offensive, and in bad taste is very important to the health of society, and even to the health of the church.'

It seems apparent to me that P+T don't want people to believe in God. It was in extremely bad taste and no amount of trivializing by the use or rationalizations will change that.

Randy, "Nazis mocking Jews" has no relationship whatsoever to what Penn & Teller did. The Nazis were the government, systematically attempting to kill an entire race of people. Penn & Teller are just two aetheists whose only power is to shock.

Now, because I have closed down two other threads on this subject, and because some people on both sides have yet again had their say, I will close this thread as well.
