The following note from Bruce Cervon was posted on the Magic Castle e-mailed newsletter:
"It is my understanding that, the great, Jay Marshall who just worked
in our Palace of Mystery for a weekend with Norm Nielsen and
Johnny Thompson had surgery to remove a cancerous eye. He is
an inspiration to me and many other magicians. I can only wish
him my best."

Re: Jay Marshall is ill
I just spoke to Jay Marshall this morning. His surgery is scheduled for October 31. (Yes, Halloween!!)He'll only be in the hospital overnight. He is in great spirits and already has a slew of one eyed jokes he's telling. He still plans on attending the LA Historical Magic Conference
November 7. All in all in sounds like a good prognosis.

Re: Jay Marshall is ill
This e-mail just received at the Genii office:
Jay Marshall has a melanoma behind his right eye. Unfortunately, four doctor-experts agreed that he should have his right eye removed, as well. He will have the surgery ("procedure" as they prefer to call it) on Halloween at Ravenswood Hospital, Chicago. He may be in the hospital for five days. His reaction to this news upon returning from the doctor on October 12 was, "What the hell, I'm 82."
Jay already has a slew of appropriate glass-eye jokes.
