Yes, I was wondering the same thing. There hasn't really been alot of talk about it lately.
Also, regarding New Magic of Japan and Five Times Five Japan, are they going to be excatly the same or are you going to add some new kinks to them.

Thanks, Niko

I believe "New Magic of Japan" and "Five Times Five: Japan" will be exactly the same as the first editions.

Both books will be the same.
At the same time as they are republished, I will publish a new book of Japanese magic.
There will be a special pre-publication offer on all three.
Unfortunately, I've been pretty busy and am not as far along on the new book as I'd hoped.

I will be looking forward to the new book, as well as the reprints although I already have them :) .

Also, is Mr. Kaufman going to include Japanese magic in Genii's to coincide with the reprints + new book? Just wondering!

Best,
Charles

You will find a 28-page article on Magic Bar Hopping in Japan in the October issue of Genii, how at the printer. Among the articles on 10 different magic bars are two tricks.

Thanks Mr. Kaufman for the information. If there happens to be any further updates, please do post in this thread again. I am sure there are lots of people out there who are more enthusiastic about this book than I am. :D

Charles

I'm excited about this, I have been hoping to get my hands on both "New Magic of Japan" and "5X5 Japan ever since I added "5X5 Scotland" to my library.

Mr. Kaufman,

Is there any chance that you could include "Eerie Revelation" in the new book? I've been trying to learn it but there's no place to find it.

Thanks,
~Niko

It's the cover item from Apocalypse, vol. 15, no. 3 (March, 1992), by Yuji Wada.

I don't want to bother Harry, and I can assure you he'd have no problem with the following request. If someone could fax that to me at the office at 301-652-8035, I'd appreciate it.

Oh. Okay well thanks for clearing that up.
So, Mr. Kaufman, if you get permission, would you consider putting it in the book?

I am able to consider it for the following reason:
Yuji Wada has won the Atsukawa Award, and all the contributors to the new book are winners of the award.

AND, I might add, the power of our community has again been proved: I have received two copies faxed to me. Thanks, ES and DL!

Mr. Kaufman: Please keep the good stuff under covers. :D

It is very interesting to hear that the book will contain all the Masao Atsukawa Prize Winners. In fact, I got a book at magicland in Tokyo last month called "Winners," which contains works from the first eight "Masao Atsukawa" Prize Winners. I am wondering if a lot of the material in the New Japan book would be repeated from the "Winners" book.

Jonathan Townsend,
Harry Lorayne wrote car magic? Wow! I didn't know that he is into car magic!

Oh, card magic... oh rats! Me dissappointed! :p

Ok...Now that thats out of the way, I have a few more questions for Mr. Kaufman.

1) Are all 3 books going to come out the same time, or will they be scattered all through September and October? Is there a specific date?

2) Does the book have a title yet?

I'm done with questions for a while so you won't be annoyed with me. :p

I don't get annoyed by common-sense questions.

To answer a few:

1) Yes, the basis of the new book is the Japanese book Winners, however we have expanded it greatly with the addition of tricks from many of the winners of Atsukawa Awards from 9 through 14.

2) Time is growing short to get these books out for the holiday season, so I've given the order to print New Magic of Japan and Five Times Five: Japan first--those are under way right now. At the moment, I don't have the time to read, edit, and do the other work necessary with the new book. So, that will wait a while.

Mr. Kaufman,

What would be a better deal:
Getting the two reprints (with the pre-publication price), and waiting and buying the new book.
Or, waiting for the new book and buying all three of them for a special price.

~Niko

Because the new book will be coming out later, there will not be a special price for the three.
By the time the new book comes out, the pre-publication price on the reprints will have expired.
So, your least expensive option will be to purchase the reprints when advertised.

Mr. Kaufman,

In the new book, is there going to be a section with forces, passes, and palms, or is it tricks only? Also, any updates on Eerie Revelation?

Niko: I believe the book will only be about tricks, although I am looking forward to other things from it as well (short biographies of each contributor would be nice!).

Regarding "Eerie Revelation," why don't you check that out from Lorayne's Apocalypse first? This way, you don't have to wait :whack:

Best,
Charles

Well, I'd rather wait because I'm running low on money. I don't want to have to buy another book for one trick and then buy the 3 japanese magic books. Plus Lorayne's Apocalypse is expensive. I'm only 14 years old. I don't have that kind of cash. :(

By the way, Charles, what is the name of force that you use in your videos? (the one in Non-Prediction, where you count off cards one by one) :help:

I don't think this is an actual force, I think Charles just makes the selection look good for the camera. ;)
I've talked to Charles on this specific topic, and he says he usually does a Riffle.

Noah,

Thanks for the explanation :)

PS: You can use the force (the one I used) as a psychological force too. The success rate is high, but in a trick like this where forcing the card is absolutely a must, I wouldn't depend on this force all the time either.

As of now, I use the hofzinser spread force more than the riffle or psychological force.

Not yet. Busy working on the Jennings book. Perhaps by the end of the year. Have just added some new tricks from Tomo Maeda and Yuji Wada. Still haven't decided on a title.
