As much as I'm interested to see this, it does demonstrate the bugbear I have with naming magic tricks. There's not a lot to go on :)

Thanks for the TOC, RK. I looked up video on some of those routines on the web: SOLD! :D

PS: RK, is it possible to please purchase a copy autographed by you or do the books ship from a different location?

I posted the list because it was requested, not because I imagined that it would generate a lot of interest.

All books are stored and shipped from a warehouse in Michigan, so can't autograph. But if you buy it from me at MAGIC Live I can autograph books there.

A friend of mine is going to MAGIC Live, so I will be buying it from you through him. And of course I want it autographed also, just like I got Japan Ingenious, and also to get the discount you mentioned somewhere else. Thanks!

The DVD contains only performances. The book will teach you everything, watching the DVD will demonstrate the timing.

I just ordered 3 copies of the book, as it's clearly *not* excluded from the 3-2 deal on the website. However, I've just been told by Margret that it's excluded from the deal (despite it saying nothing throughout the ordering process).

Richard - can you please clarify whether it is/is not excluded from the deal?

It is excluded from the 3 for 2 deal and there will be a notice up tomorrow on the website to that effect. Four books are excluded from the 3 for 2 deal: "The Secrets of So Sato," "Super Sized Silly," "Tenyoism," and "Labyrinth."

If you would like a refund on your order, Margret will be happy to accommodate you.

I'm not looking for a refund - just clarity on what is/was contradictory information.

Thanks - looking forward to receiving the book.

I just pre-ordered and was wondering if if the DVD contains performances of all the material of just several featured items? Either way, it's a great bonus and I look forward to watching before reading the explanations.

If my memory serves, there are video demonstrations of 20 of the 35 items in the book. There was no reason to demonstrate some of the self-working material. The running time is an hour.

RK: Was all of the footage on the DVD newly shot for the book or does some of it come from his previously published DVDs?

I went to Japan and shot all the footage myself. It's all new, and a proper DVD with menus, music, etc.

WOW!!!!

You've certainly put a huge amount of work into this project, not to mention expense.
That is just the video.......then the book, the writing , editing, proofreading, printing, publishing and distributing.

I'd imagine you've done all that as a labour of love rather than as a money spinning exercise.
I can't possibly see how it can return a rewarding profit.................THANKS.

The price we pay for all your efforts makes me feel guilty.
I'm looking forward to the book so much.

Again let me say THANKS.

Thank you, John.

Putting out a quality product is expensive.

At this point in my life I have no need to publish anything that I feel is not exceptional. That is always my goal, but one of these days I'll hit another Lim-Tricks in the road. It's bound to happen. Look at Steven Spielberg's new film "The BFG." Bomb. That doesn't mean he worked any less hard, or any less long, or cared any less about that film than any others. It just isn't selling tickets. I'll have another book like that--it's inevitable.

My goal is always to exceed expectations and to do books that no one else is going to be able to do (for various reasons). I hope people share my enthusiasm and buy the books that are of interest to me.

I have no control over the exchange rates (obviously), so I just have to go with the flow.

Unfortunately I see nothing in the near future that will stabilize the pound. But if you live in Japan you're lucky because the yen has been soaring! Last time I exchanged money $1 bought you 125 yen. Now $1 buys you about 100 yen. When my father used to do business in Japan in the 1970s, $1 bought you 250 yen!

Richard, I'm sure you could stabilise exchange rates, put a man on Mars and broker world peace if you put your mind to it.

I'm a card guy so this makes me happy :D this would be a great birthday present from me to myself, my birthday is September 17th, but if the book arrives some days or weeks earlier it doesn't matter :D :D :D

P.S. I love your books Richard, I have like six or seven from you, and on my birthday I will add two more books from you to my shelf: Secrets of So Sato and Secrets of Brother John Hamman (My girlfriend will buy it for me as a birthday present) What a great birthday, right?

P.S. 2. I can't wait for the Jennings books, my first book was Jennings' 67

I decided to buy this at the recommendation of Mama san at Magicland, after she told me for the umpteenth time that Sato's original lecture notes were still out of print. She said if it's Richard who is publishing his book in English, it'll be better than the original.

Jorge, you can bet it's a great book.

I met So Sato at Genii Convention and his work is superb.
I met too a young man from Japan, who is studying in New York and attended the convention in Orlando, just to see So Sato. Although both are japanese, he hadn't had the oportunity to see him perform in Japan. It speaks about how much worth is to see him.

See you in Monterrey

I don't think there is any way to see So Sato in Japan. He works for the Tenyo Company full time, and that means FULL time. I don't believe he gives lectures, either.

But you'll see him do 20 of the items in the book on the included DVD.

Andres,

I was at last year's Genii Convention, too, and met So Sato for the first time.
The Japanese gentlemen from NY was Fukuda Yohta san, and he is the author of at least two OOP lecture notes, neither of which I have.
He appears (masked) in this trailor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GaK0Kf6yHw

As for So Sato, his Bushfire and Warp Wrap are pretty well known but little performed in Japan.
I am very excited about being able to finally read his work instead of learning it second hand from other magicians who were lucky enough to get his material in Japanese.

Hi Andres,

Some people only chose to learn American magic, some others Spanish magic, etc. but I love to learn stuff from different magicians around the world. I know Spanish, Japanese, American, French schools of magic are different (just to name a few), the thinking is very different, the construction of the routines are different, the approaches to plots are different, but that is the beauty about magic, that's why I will buy So Sato's book, that's why I bought Japanese Ingenious, New Magic of Japan, Collected Almanac, Complete Works of Derek Dingle, that's why I bought everything from Bebel, everything from Larry Jennings, Roy Walton, some from Max Maven, and the masters like LePaul, Vernon, Slydini, Elmsley, Marlo, the dvds from French Drop Productions (Sick by Pontha The Smith, Monster by Mott Sun, Emperor by Mo and Ryu-Ka), the Magical Sleight Seasons, the E-Book England Up Close from Peter Duffie. I don't mind trying to learn different types of card magic, even if I do not perform all the material to lay people, but I like to learn different stuff and show it to my family, if I don't feel comfortable I do not perform it in gigs.

I do not change my style of performing, I try to adapt the effect, method and presentation to fit my style. If I can not adapt it, I simply do not add it to my repertoire :D

See you the next week, Andres

I was standing next to Dan Garrett, who asked if I and Yohta were Japanese. We acknowledged and he immediately asked us to perform some magic from Japan. Yohta did his extremely clean and incredible Oil and Water routine. I did a routine of Tomoyuki Takahashi's, more popularly known as "Yuki Tomo" in Japan, but Dan was more impressed with Yohta's routine, and rightly so.

I don't know if the O&W routine Yohta showed us was the one in his lecture notes, but another Japanese magician with me at the convention said he just saw what he could only envision from his precious copy of Yohta's notes. He is a living legend who ranks high among the most sought-after magicians in Japan.
