With Victoria's Secret TV show being so well known and publicised... it made me think of the following.

You talk about fashions nowadays and how little fabric is being used. (Hold up two squares of silk--the gaffe for the bra trick). As you tie the two corners you say, "Here is more material than they use for making dresses these days."

Tuck into your outer jacket pocket.

Reach into a pocket and bring out a bra.

Comment, "Here's an outfit Madonna wore at the Golden Globe awards."

Vanish the bra (one good way would be the lamp chimeny vanish in a Zombie Glass)... or use your favorite method.

"Here's here formal outfit." As you whip out the silks with the vanished bra re-appearing between them.

This is just a rudimentary patter/theme idea.

Comments? (As I run and DUCK... DUCK?)

A couple of years ago, you could have shown the two silks, tied them together, and said,

"Here's how they made Jennifer Lopez's dress."

Hi everyone,

All that I can say is that some thought needs to be used if you wish to present this at all. I also work as a psychologist for the local school district. Here, as well as in the private sector, litigation is running rampant. With the proliferation of attorneys taking cases that, "you only pay if we win," the trend is even getting more so. The new trend that is receiving even more attention is that of sexual harrassment. I think you can see where this is going. Is it worth it?

I'm not going to turn this thread into a mini-treatise on the law regarding sexual harassment (which has a federal version applicable in all 50 states as well as state law counterparts that can slightly vary from the federal statute), but sexual harassment relates to conduct in the work place and also has to be pervasive with respect to "hostile environment" claims. [For those who wonder, this is an area in which I've litigated for the last 10 years.] As a result, good taste and audience suitability probably should be a bigger concern that a sexual harassment claim for magicians who performs the infamous bra trick.

A guy hired me to perform at his "Ski Home" in Aspen. It was a Holiday/Birthday Party for his girlfriend.

I was performing for a small group of the guests when "the girlfriend" gives me an odd look and hands some wadded-up thing to me under the table as she whispers "Do something with this to my boyfriend."

I look down and see it is a lime-green bra.

I loaded it in a guest's jacket pocket for an ending to Cards Across using the guest and the girlfriend.

The last card didn't go across, so I asked the guy to check his pockets to be sure. He comes out with the lime-green article of clothing, everyone starts laughing. The girlfriend screamed and pulled-up her sweater shouting, "THAT"S MINE!"

I acted like I didn't know what was going on (I was only half acting.)

I had never performed the "tie two scarves together..." version of the bra trick, but now I know the effect it was trying to recreate.

I would just like to say that I feel that "The Bra Trick" has been given a bad rap.It is our responsibility to decide if an effect is well suited to our performance persona. I have seen this trick performed badly, however I have also seen countless other effects that are available on the general retail market performed sub-par. Does this mean they have all been bad effects? No.Perhaps the performer didn't have a personality that meshed well with the effect he or she was performing. ( or it lacked the proper thinking and rehersal) In the proper hands I believe ANY effect has the POTENTIAL to be entertaining. I myself have used the "Bra Trick" on different occasions, and have recieved a fantastic audience response. Also I would like to say that to date I have managed to perform this without offending anyone. It is all in the nature you present the effect.
