Seeking stage blood "whipping" recipe

I wonder if some good person out there could help me locate a recipe for a staged "whipping" scene (not in a magic show). I have recollections of an old "days gone by" show which featured convicts being lashed, with streaks of blood appearing as the whip struck the victim.
While this could certainly be done with a whip soaked in regular stage blood (for which there are plenty of recipes or regular stage blood, but this would be a two-part liquid (phenophaline?) which, when brushed against another substance on the person's back, creates a red streak.
