Quicksilver

Rick Johnsson's Quicksilver is described in Mentzer's Close Up Cavalcade.
It seems like an interesting ring-off-rope effect.
But every time I try it, I end up with a knot. I'm following the instructions as carefully as I can; but the photos aren't particularly clear.
Can anyone familiar with this give me a tip?
