Looking for Marked Cards
Any cards available with the marking system on the left side of the card? Something that can be easily seen while spreading from hand to hand.

"The Ultimate Marked Deck." Not cheap, but SO easy to read.

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
I mark my own using Harry Riser's system. I find it very workable. Depending on how the card is oriented for "the marking system on the left side of the card" you might need to change which corners you are marking. The marking image would then be a mirror or reversed image.
In my experience marking the cards is not time consuming, but expect to use an extra card or two when starting out. To get the correct blue and red I went to an art supply store and tested different pens on the backs of cards. Blue was easier to match than red. Blue is also easier to apply than red, because if the red ink is applied too heavily it becomes darker than the red on the back of the card. Blue is not a sensitive to how heavily or lightly I apply it.

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
I researched the exact colours for blue and red bikes - they are Prussian Blue and Vermillion.
I tried Harry's marking system, but couldn't find a suitable way to apply the ink without it smudging

Bob Farmer has also researched proper pens and inks. Maybe he will step in?

The marking system Mr. Farmer published in Magic back in the 90s worked beautifully for me. I used it in card games, not for money, and was never caught.

If I may self-promote, my PM Card Mark system produces marks that can be read while spreading. That was one of my goals for the system. You draw the marks—letters and numbers—with a sharpie.

I'm looking for Marked Cards for magicians with poor eyesight. I've read of the Daredevil deck, but was wondering if anyone out there had experience in using this close-up for non-magicians.

Look on eBay for an old DeLand Daisy Deck. It's made to be read from a distance.

I never tried the specific inks recommended in "The Faints and Temps of Harry Riser" because I didn't think I would be able apply the ink without smudges. The pens I located allowed me to mark the cards more quickly than if I'd spent time developing the proper brushing technique.

Would you possibly be willing to share the pens you have found useful please?

Try Andy Nyman's The Code.

I did not want to be painting inks with brushes. My local art supply store was very accommodating, and let me try all the blue and red pens to find the best match for the Bicycle backs. From their inventory the best matches I found were a blue LePen by Marvy and a red IDenti Pen permanent marker by Sakura with 1.0mm and 0.4mm tips. Of the two red tips the 0.4mm tip is the most useful for the task at hand.
I have been happy with the results as the marked cards I made have never betrayed me when used in performing.

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
I've tried all kinds of inks and pens, including the ink mentioned. The problem with the pens is that at certain angles the color vanishes and you see a blackish color. The problem with the inks is the application. I finally decided to go with one color--white, which doesn't have the color change problem. The best white I've found is Molotow Signal White. See:
https://www.amazon.ca/Molotow-One4All-M ... B0044D3R5Y
You can make the tip smaller by cutting it.
The white can be used for a coded system or for simply writing the name of the cards ("AH").
However, after all this fooling around, I decide to buy several the Bicycle Marked decks sold by Murphy's Magic.

Wow--that seems really visible to use close-up. I bought a couple of decks to try them out. (although I've never been one to favor the gold-plated thumb tip argument).

The problem Mr. Farmer describes does occur under artificial light. The problem varies in degree depending on the type of lighting. The cards become "angley". Just like certain slights require an awareness of angles, cards marked with pens require the same thoughtfulness. As with any gimmick proper misdirection and handling are important.

Wow, that's crazy.
I know this sounds insane, but I saw the "J" and COMPLETELY missed seeing the heart until I paused and thought, "Hey... shouldn't there be a suit there too?"
It seems impossible to not see... but the brain works in wacky ways.

My eyesight has long passed the point were normal marks are useful in performance. It's obviously time to break out Blob-o-vision

I think the "J" stands out more because of its hard corners and straight edges. If they had used a script "J"
instead of the block "J" I think it would have been much more deceptive.

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
I have pitched marked decks. I worked out a great routine with them. And there was a pitchman called Seewald years ago who pitched them too. He used the De Land Decks which I always thought were great. Of course I never bothered reading the marks. You can't be messing about doing that when you are pitching. I did what Joe Stuthard used to do or at least what I heard he did. You just simply use a stacked deck and pretend you can read the backs. It does save a lot of trouble.

I came across a post that stated Chris Capehart has some work on marked decks for low vision folks. However, my on-line research dead-ended. Does anyone have any published references for this please?

Capehart effectively creates a Ted Lesley marked deck, but writes the marks with a pen. So they can be as large as necessary for him to see them.

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
Richard says that Deland's deck can see at certain distance, but not only that. There are so many possibilities with this deck difficult to find.
You can know the bottom card, the exact position of any card in the deck, all the suits and is also stacked.
Thanks Richard for recall me this deck.
Truly yours,
F. Amílcar Riega i Bello.

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
There is another Phoenix Marked deck out there. The marking is more subtle than the one posted above. Here is a sample and you can buy it in several places online.

Just as an FYI: got a Daredevil deck in the mail. The clarity of the marks fade for me at about 4 feet on a horizontal surface with good lighting (20/15 corrected vision). Without glasses, can't see them unless they are within a foot. ( -7.5)

Just received these by post. I can actually read these on a horizontal surface from 6 feet away, yet they are marked in a far more subtle way than the Daredevil deck. I looked at the ads and couldn't see the markings until I got the deck; however, once you see them, you'll always see them. The downside is that you can't see the full marks in a spread unless it's a wide spread and like most marked decks, you can't "take 'em to the movies." They are made by Cartamundi (with standard faces except for the Jokers and Ace of Spades) and the stock and finish are very nice (although they don't Faro easily out of the box).

Re: Looking for Marked Cards
Check out Steve Gore´s "special" marked deck: The GPS Deck (aka Regatta).
http://www.stevegore.co.uk/steve-gore-shop.html
You can "locate" their card in a few seconds "without" spreading the deck.
I like the deck very much, but, you need a good eyesight.
