Lens Case for Sherwood Cups?

Postby erdnasephile » July 2nd, 2016, 11:17 pm

I have a set of Sherwoods on the way, which come with a soft bag for storage.

On his Cups and Balls video, Daryl mentioned a Pete Biro tip that telephoto lens cases make perfect hard cases to store cups for travel. However, telephoto lens cases come in many different sizes.

Has anyone found a sturdy hard telephoto lens case that fits the Sherwoods snugly?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

I would go to a camera shop with the cups to check on case sizes much as one would take a cup to the supermarket to gauge the correct sized final loads. Then you can report your results here on the Forum. :D

Michael Skinner also used a lens case for his cups.

Frank Garcia also used a lens case for his cups. I took a picture during that lecture that shows the case. Of course the Danny Dew's cups probably aren't as big as the Sherwoods. eBay has a bunch of the vintage hard cases. If I remember correctly, while the cases open from the top, Franks may have opened from the side.

Skinner's lens case also opened from the side like a gate door swinging outward. As Erdnasephile point out, acquiring the correct sized case isn't that easy. Cups are not all in one standardized size so one may need several lens cases of differing sizes for each set of cups.

Thanks for the lead, MaxNY-- Also, I'll see if I can find a B & M camera shop near me as well. There don't seem be to many of those around these days.

Camera shops really are getting harder to find so the used market might be the way to go. I would tape measure the width of my cups at the mouth and measure the height when stacked. Those two numbers should help narrow down the correct sized lens case.
