Vertical overhand shuffle

Postby P.T.Widdle » February 12th, 2015, 3:16 pm

Has anyone ever tried this? It seems pointless, but I'm just curious.

Well, if you turn the deck sideways, your really doing a Hindu Shuffle with a different grip.

I saw this (legitimate shuffle) being done last week by a gentleman. I'll ask him where he learned it.

Isn't this a horizontal overhand shuffle?

In the Book Ein Spielkarten (1853) discovered by Reinhard Muller, in the section 3 on False Shuffles the deck is held "upright".
There is a picture of this but I don't know how to post it.

It's like a Hindu Shuffle, but instead of the right hand being held palm down, it grabs the inner end of the deck with the palm facing forward (against the edges of the cards), the deck held between the right thumb on the inner left corner, and the right pinky on the inner right corner.

The left hand does the usual actions of a Hindu Shuffle. The only difference is the right-hand grip, which makes sleight of hand rather difficult.

The spectator does this shuffle. I've never noticed it before.

I have seen MANY people shuffle this way when I do Tarot readings. I get them to shuffle the pack so I can receive their vibrations and this is often how they shuffle them because of their size.

Very nifty. And she must have studied magic; she managed to drop one card just at the right moment. Just like we all do.

Good trick all round really, but here’s a thought. Why didn’t he push the card back through the glass? ;)

Here's another thought ...
It would be much better to have the card appear on the window with the face toward the spectator.

I have also seen many Asian people shuffle like that, but I have never seen anyone except magicians hold the cards in the grip utilized for the "Hindu Shuffle".
