M0-FLY by Moritz Mueller

This young man from Germany looks to about 12 or 13 years-old. He puts a lot of us to shame.

That is GREAT to see!
I love seeing things that remind me that magic has a bright future with accomplished young people like this.

...nearly 350 views and as of this post only 2 replies. Interesting. When a kid this age demonstrates the type of skill and natural charm Moritz displays, it would be nice for some experienced magicians to recognize his accomplishments.

I humbly add a well deserved bravo.

Mr. Mueller performs this very well. Bravo! His version of the Fingertips Coins Across will soon be available as a downloadable tutorial. I believe that it will require an expensive coin gaff, but then, certain gaffs can allow for displays not possible with regular coins.

I've been performing the fingertips coins across since Kenner's book came out in the early 90's. And I studied almost all variations. When the trick became a hype I left it alone for a couple of years.
I have seen many people do it, but this is what I think: Never seen it done better than this young man. He has the soft touch that this effect needs to be truly magical.
I am very curious if this soft touch will show up in other effects he does. If so...wow.
If not, still wow for this rendition!

I could have sworn that there was a very long thread about this that devolved into a debate about presentation and technique. But maybe that was on Facebook. And maybe since several of those in the debate are also members here, that is why it never took off here.

He does a great job, but notice his smile at the end of the trick. That personality should be the first thing we see, not the last.

Very impressive.

He was at FISM! I was watching a recap video, and he just showed up! Now I'm twice as jealous. ;)

Not my video, but thought you might enjoy this quick and funny clip of him and David Williamson. Looks like he was performing his oneCoin: https://youtu.be/Zl0qwx7HWww?t=7m58s

I spent about two or three hours with Moritz at FISM. He is incredibly good--the skill of a very good 25 year old. He has a very soft touch. Amazingly, even though his hands are small, he uses half dollars and even does some things with silver dollars. Quite amazing!

I think that soft touch is what sets him apart, especially for his generation where much of sleight of hand is from the "snap, crackle, and pop" school. (Nothing wrong with that, of course: it's just Mortiz' handlings have that old school feel).

I'd be curious to know: did he learn predominantly from books, videos, or a great mentor?

PS: That FISM video rules! (Thanks for posting that Orlan!)

His routines/sleights/demeanor look fine. bravo.

Where next? Perhaps some time doing routines for a spec or two to get the "where are they looking and how do you react to what happens" timing. How to get that Ramsay/Galloway "flash that smile at the audience just an instant before doing the sleight" stuff working without changing ones basic affect can be a challenge.

Wow! Only 2 years experience? That is mind blowing.

(I was also impressed when Shin Lim said on "Fool Us" that he'd only been a magician for 7.)

These guys are really talented, hard working magicians--so happy to see this! I'm also glad they seem well-received amongst the magic community. The young guys are magic's future and should be encouraged.

This is inspiring to see, because regardless of his age, it is art. Clearly this young man has talent, but even more clearly, he has put in countless hours of practice and dedication. Every time we do a trick or a routine, whether it's for one person on the grocery line or a hundred people at a show, we are ambassadors for the art of magic. I firmly believe that in terms of performing for people, it is far better to do one trick on a virtuoso level than it is to have a huge repertoire of tricks for which the performance is mediocre. Dariel Fitskee, in his book, "Showmanship for Magicians," lamented the fact that magic was not as popular or viewed by the general public as being on a par with other performing arts such as music, theatre, dance and the cinema. Magicians like Moritz can change this perception and help to elevate the art of magic to the status it deserves. So can all of us, if we follow his lead. That being said, while immaculate technique and ultra clean performance are goals to be aimed for, IMHO it is equally important to have entertaining patter and presentation, and like Vernon said, "an emotional hook," because ultimately, in any performance art, it is about the spectators.

before you deign something to be art, spend some time learning what art is.

I bet he spends more time practicing his magic than he does posting his opinions and critiques about magic on the computer with other magicians.

@Brad, you're arguing aesthetics in a forum where "clearly" and "obviously" may well mean "I choose to presume that" and "I can't imagine that you think other than".

Brad, I do not "deign" to do anything other than to offer my humble opinion. I did not join this forum to get into an ego battle with other magicians. But I would be curious, maybe you could enlighten us as to just what "art" is?

Producing a copy of a work you see at the museum using materials you have at home is not likely art. Bringing that work to the museum and making a public plea that they should add it to their collection because you were inspired there... might be art.

If I'm not mistaken Chris Kenner is somewhat of a mentor to Moritz, so I think he has a very bright future in magic if he just sticks around.
