Help with Name of an Effect
Can anyone help with the name of a close-up effect? It's the metal ring that appears to pass on and off a shoelace that has a magnet concealed inside it.
Does anyone recall the name of this? I thought it might be "BewildeRING" but I can't find this described.
I know Tannen's used to sell it.

I know what you're talking about as I used to own one. I may have bought my from Bob Little. Possibly it might have been a hollow velvet cord. Just can't remember the name.

Matt
I think you are after Fantasma Magic Linking Ring Through String (although the UK's Stephen Tucker put out something very similar earlier).
Bewildering was a Doug Bennet effect in the New Stars of Magic Series - which also had a ring going on and off a rope. But the method was so damn clever i'm reluctant to mention it...but it wasn't a magnet.

Tenyo sells one where both the ring and rope have magnets in them. Not sure who invented it, though.

Re: Help with Name of an Effect
Bob King put out an effect called the Ring Thing which used a cord with a magnet in it.

It seems to be the Doug Bennet's trick. See Genii, vol. 49, no. 4, october 1985, page 234. Sold by Tannen as New Stars of Magic, vol. 2, no. 2

BINGO! Thanks so much, Philippe. I looked it up on the Genii Archive, an invaluable resource by the way, and there it is. I also got some off-line info from my buddy Meir Yedid regarding the trick and Bob McAllister(Mr. Magnets).

Matt are you sure? Doug Bennett's BewildeRing does not use a magnet.
Re: Help with Name of an Effect
According to "Instruction of Tenyo Miracle Ring", Creator is Bob Little and Tetsuya Fukui.
Tenyo has received permission from them to release Miracle Ring.

Frank -- as has been pointed out to me, Bewildering is the trick Doug Henning performed on TV where a ring magically passes on to a cord, and it does not use a magnet.
I'll try to ask Bob Little about this if he's in Blackpool.

Re: Help with Name of an Effect
I believe the trick that Bob Little was selling was "Swing-a-Ring", made by MAK Magic / UF Grant.

Re: Help with Name of an Effect
is the actual Grant's Swing-A-Ring the same as Zella Ring on the Rope described in Tarbell, Vol. 6, page 173 ?
Thanks in advance

I thought the one Bob Little sold was a white shoelace with silver dots which were magnets.

Re: Help with Name of an Effect
And do you think (or know) that Grant's Nu Ring Off String described in Grant's Secrets (1943) is the same trick (and principle) ?
