Two ton transpo
What do you think are the best effects using the Two ton transpo?

The only routine that I've seen it used in is Jim Swain's Airmail Card from 'Miracles with Cards.

What do you mean by "best"?
Are you assuming assuming that what is "best" (whatever that means without some sort of context) for someone else would also be "best" for you?

Then I don't understand your question.El Mystico wrote:No, Chris, I don't think like that.
Without having some sort of context of your personal preferences, skill level, etc., how can anyone truly know what's "best" for you? And why would you want to know what's "best" for someone else with no real reason to believe that what is "best" for them would be "best" for you? I'm genuinely curious.
Is there some specific aspect of this move (or effects using it) that you want to discuss here?

Re: Two ton transpo
Chris; I'm not looking for what's 'best' for me.
My working repertoire has held pretty constant for about the last ten years. Occasionally I'll work something up to performance standard, but it rarely breaks in to the repertoire, because it just isnt as good as what I'm already doing.
But I still enjoy playing with and thinking about effects, moves and techniques. I find it interesting and stimulating.
Two Ton Transpo is an interesting move because it achieves (at least) three different things.
So I was interested to see what has been done with it.
Does that make sense to you?

If you're just on a fishing expedition for other effects that simply use the technique, then yes, I understand that.
But I still have no idea by what you mean by "best" or why you'd even use that phrase to people who likely don't know you or what's "best" for you specifically.

Again, this idea I am looking for the 'best' for me. Its not what I said, not what I meant.
If someone has seen something with this move that they thought weas cute - I'm interested.
Did you have a bad day?

You asked specifically for "best effects", not for some discussion of the move itself.
Tell us why you like the move so much, why you find it interesting, how use use it, etc. and perhaps we can respond to that. Throwing out a random "give me the best effects with this move" type of post isn't especially meaningful.

What do you mean by "cute"? Is "best" off the table now? ;)
I'm having a great day!
Re: Two ton transpo
Wow, how rude Chris! Maybe when you read the chapter in the Fred Robinson book El Mystico wrote (which will be extracted in Magic magazine next month) you will realise he probably deserves a little bit more respect that you are currently giving him.

Re: Two ton transpo
Chris is prone to rudness once in a while, that's true. However El Mystico's question which started the topic does beg the question which Chris raised, which is that it's hard to make statements like "best" in a vacuum.
Now that we've solved all of that, if anyone has anything to add to El Mystico's original inquiry, please participate.

Re: Two ton transpo
I think this is a great move, but I have only seen it used twice. Firstly, in the Jim Swain trick mentioned above and Michael Close has a nice touch on this move using Double Backed cards for a card force which is incredibly clean . The force can be found in 'Closely Guarded Secrets'. I would be interested to see what uses Bill Goodwin has put his ingenious move to...

Re: Two ton transpo
Thanks guys.
Also thanks to the person who mailed me the references to the Columbini and the Lorayne routines.
Interesting - Lorayne refers to it as the Goodwin/Bruce move....does anyone know about that? Is the reference to Gordon Bruce?

Looks like Carl Andrews may use it in his routine Dj vu found in "Making A Living Performing Close-Up Magic".

I also see a reference to "Larry Jenning's Handling Of Two Ton Transpo" in Magic (April 1992, p. 54)

Thank you, Joe. I knew of the Jennings handling, but the Andrews' reference is new to me.

Re: Two ton transpo
Hey - just thought of another reference. There is a chapter on this great move in 'Card Conspiracy - Vol.1' by Peter Duffie and Robin Robertson. Thanks to the magic of 'cut and paste' I can give you the contents of that chapter below:
100 CHAPTER 11 - GOODWIN / BRUCE ( GB ) SWITCH
100 Description of move
101 GB Center Countdown
102 The Highly Visible Kings
104 Sequence
105 Signature Peace
All the best,
Joe

Re: Two ton transpo
You could use MC's force version of the TTT for the cards-on-the-water version of Triumph, which I believe is in Jon Racherbaumer's Arch Triumphs.
Now there's a suggestion that just might be understood, much less appreciated, by about three people.

Re: Two ton transpo
There is a routine called Two Ton Triumph by Michael "Six" Muldoon on the Magic Magazine 360 site (for Subscribers). It is similar to the Triumph routine used by James Swain in Airmail Card from Miracles with Cards. It has some changes to make it an in the hands handling and utilize the Goodwin/Jennings display.
