Hmmm, you need to define favorite!
But, these are my favorite go to tricks to show someone.
Great magic value, easy to do, & maybe most important, easy to remember how to do :)

Billscape
Fortune Donut
Magical Door
Prison Box
Wandering Hole

there would be like 5 more in 6th place.

* CRYSTAL CLEAVER
* MYSTERY CHINA BOX
* BIRDWATCHER
* WHAT'S NEXT
* FLASH DICE

Ryan, if you like "Fortune Donut," then you should defnitely buy Sugawara's new version that eliminates the scissors and the "etc." His new version "Mystery Donut" is completely self working, nothing is added or taken away. And it's only $20:

I can't think how that might be done...

I use fortune donut all the time. I think it's a good one for casual performers and professionals.

I unearthed a Blue Crystal the other day that I'd forgotten I had - I have to admit it intrigued me rather more than it did when I first got it. I plan to have a play with it this weekend and, once I've finished, I think I'll have another look at the Blue Crystal (fnarr, fnarr).

At the same time I also dug out another Tenyo item which I think came out the same year, X-Ray File (?) - no idea at all what it does so planning to have another look at that too.

Too much stuff, too little time...

Tenyo's Cubio item was part of my introduction to magic shop magic. It pretty much forked my thinking down "industrial production possibilities" (which lead to quality as a career) and looking in old books for good ideas to bring into working material (production in the theatrical sense).

Squeeze Play.. oh yes. :) Educational item there. In context with Swaddling's Double Deception and a sleight with two cups to vanish a ball it triggered a transition between tricks-as-items and principles/applications.

Later items like the Crash Dice helped start me down the path of finding context for the tricks in the same way that matting and framing serve the display of a painting.

The recent items with a little scissors and black circle of symbols keep me on my toes for tales of "where did this come from".

I'm with you Matt! I love those items. It's very hard to pick one's five favorites from among over 250 tricks.

I have a new effect with Blue Crystal coming in the Tenyo book that is the best thing ever done with it. People react physically when they see it: screaming, jumping backward, doubling over, etc.

I don't have a list of 5, but I have to mention this one:

Tenyo's "BALLOON ILLUSION" (Penetration) ---greatly over-looked.

Handing the outfit to spectators and telling them to bend the balloon, and peer INTO the tube...

When they SEE the spikes apparently penetrating the balloon..they are astonished.

Not one magi I've shown this to - knew the method.

btw--First thing I did was to mask the colored decorative bands on the ends of the black tube...Keep the tube all black.

Throw out the 2 plastic toy round "swords", and substitute silver metallic chop sticks, or darning needles.

BEWARE of cheap knock-offs (i.e the aluminum models) --that feature external decorative groove designs! Then it won't fool anyone!

Hey Genii Forumites! Looking for any GENUINE Tenyo at fair prices? Why not PM or email me to find out if I have them for you? If I do, they are most likely in the English package.

You love Tenyo and I love Tenyo so please think of me when you need a Tenyo fix. Perhaps I can provide you with some or all of your top five. I also have some of those nice collectible Tenyo Catalogs. Buy a few Tenyo tricks from me and I will throw in a catalog for FREE! :D

* SYNCHRO BOXES- discontinued by Tenyo
* MILLIONAIRES'S DREAM- US Quarter version- discontinued by Tenyo
* ANIMATION FRAME- discontinued by Tenyo
* FLOATING CARD
* CRAZY SPOTS
* SILK FROM HANKY
* MYSTIC SCOPE- discontinued by Tenyo
* ZIG ZAG CIG- Japanese box, Tenyo's English instructions included

Price for the entire lot including shipping to addresses in the US is $150.

If you want this lot, please PM or email me first to see if I still have it. Payment can be made via PayPal to randlmagicsellers@msn.com.

It's not the items that are hard to find. It's the English packaging as I stated. For example, Flash Dice and Synchro Boxes have become hard to find in the English versions. I am stating that according to my empirical experiences.

I will edit my listing to make it more accurate.

The cool thing about a favorite Tenyo list is that it is most difficult to make poor choices.

I would to hear from Tenyo fans which Tenyo tricks you don't like and why. The list is short in my opinion.

It's not that I don't like the following effecst but they have frustrated me as I find them hard to perform successfully or consistently...

Mind Spinner
Money Shredder
Impossible Pen
Excalibur
Quick Silver

I do know that you are right on with Mind Spinner, Impossible Pen, and Quicksilver. They are difficult to achieve or should I say, do not always work properly.

I never tried Money Shredder or Excalibur.

Excaliber works best with brand new quarters, not worn quarters.

Impossible Pen should work perfectly if you follow the instructions. The pen needs to have some momentum for that swing into its final position.

Quicksilver is tricky: you have to pay very careful attention to the way in which the case is held and follow the instructions exactly as far as when it's kept level, when it should be tilted, etc. You also might want to try a little silicon spray to loosen the gimmick. It will work fine if the instructions are followed and the gimmick isn't sticky.

Mindspinner absolutely works fine, but I had to be taught how to do it. I teach the proper method in the Tenyo book. It really does work.

Money Shredder is a problem I'm trying to solve now: it should work beautifully, but the string coming around the bill should not be obvious. When most people do it, it's plain as day, and thus there is no magical effect.

Thanks Richard. Look forward to reading about Mind Spinner. I love the concept of Impossible Pen but will not work for me and I have tried many variations. The pen will move to the edge when I do the "cutting" but will not move when I lift the tube.

So far, there aren't that many lists so perhaps we should wait a bit.

4D Surprise (for example) appears on 3 lists (out of 8). I'd love to see how many times each trick appears. And I'd love it even more if someone else does the compiling.

No problem Pete! I will make a list of all entries and specify how many times each trick appeared on the lists.

Maybe I will wait until the end of March so people have the opportunity to add their top 5 list to this thread.

I did two lists so maybe I will select just five to keep it consistent.

Sound good?

Speaking of top 5 Tenyo's, 4-DIMENSIONAL TRUNK is quite magnificent. Incredibly well made and if presented properly, a real shocker.

Any comments on this one?

as a performer I love showing people the zigzag bill and Midas machine. also love the key through quarter key chain. But the Sakura scale is a really great thing. Perfect trick to show a class after they have learned the jastrow illusion.

As a magic guy I love the yellow card changer and the Easter island statue thing.

I think the trick with the two sets of numbered sticks can be a real fooler. Outlined a routine for that once but cannot find the detailed notes. kills me because I had a great sequence.

having said that - it was tunnel of darkness and the black hole and zig zag cig which tempted me as a kid looking through the caufield magic catalog.

So, you have selected the following.

* Zone Infinity
* Eye of the Idol
* Midas Machine
* Trisector
* Su Ti Ki Na
* Match Sticks
* Tunnel of Darkness
* Black Hole
* Zig Zag Cig
* Card Changer

So that's ten. Trying to be difficult, eh? Can you please follow the rules and just select 5? :lol:

Anyone have the Tenyo MAGIC WORLD set? It's arguably the best darn magic set ever!

It includes some no longer made Tenyo releases such as Krazy Keys and Moonspinner. The quality is remarkable and it even has a DVD. The thick instruction book is in Japanese.

Would that box set count as one? I suggest not...

If you have it, I would like to hear your review.
