Re: Vase ala India Made of Gold!
I wonder if people are paying this much as an investment and hope to make a profit or just because they are crazy collectors?

Investing is when you buy low and sell high.
Not when you buy high.
I can't imagine a Vase ala India selling for even that much.

Re: Vase ala India Made of Gold!
There is no rhyme or reason concerning what the more rare Tenyo is selling for these days. No pattern, no method, no rational behavior concerning these pieces.
Perhaps there will never be a standard pricing on highly sought after Tenyo. If it's not someone bidding to make a mess of an auction, it's someone paying ridiculously high prices.
I find it interesting that these things are happening with Tenyo. Perhaps it's due to all of the attention Tenyo collectibles are getting lately.

By the way, I am pretty sure that Tenyo made the vases again years later for sale in Japan only and in three different colors.

You are incorrect. Tenyo never made the vases again.
You may be thinking of the jars that held a sand product that they sold, but those were not the same vase.

At the beginning, somebody bid $19.95 and thought "I wonder if I'll get this."

If you're a completest, then paying $851 might be a necessary evil for you. Something is worth what you're willing to pay for it. That said, value and worth are very different. Value is subject to the law of averages where worth is not.
I can tell you that I have seen less Super Vase A La India's than Ultra Tube's. $851 is outlandish for any Tenyo, but it's also on par with the very rare Astro Coin.
