Allan Kronzek's New Book

Postby Allan Kronzek » April 13th, 2008, 9:28 am

Dear Friends,

This is a pitch for my new book: 52 WAYS TO CHEAT AT POKER: HOW TO SPOT THEM, FOIL THEM, AND PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THEM.

Jamy Ian Swiss gave it a rave review in the March Genii, calling it "A remarkably fresh turn on a very old subject." Martin Gardner, in MUM, honored me with the line "The book is a pleasure to read and study;" Rolando Santos, in the Linking Ring, called it "an immensely useful resource," and "funny to boot," and Peter Duffie, in Magic, didn't care for it at all.

The official publication was April 1. The book retails for $13 but is a mere $10.40 on Amazon, and only slightly more at Barnes & Noble, and other on-line booksellers. Magic dealers are also stocking it. If you have any interest in the subject, there is probably something in the book you don't know about. A lot was new to me. Those who like the book are urged to post a review at Amazon, as positive reviews do boost sales. For an accurate description of the book, check out Jamy's review.

He teach tons of really good infomations with his own fun writing style.
If you already enjoy to read his ohter books like "The Secrets of Alkazar" or "The Sorcerer's Companion", this is must read. :)

Sincerely,
Y

P.S.: His "Destiny,Chance and Freewill" is one of hidden Gems,I think.

I thought Duffie's review was largely positive. That's what I took away from it.

Brad,

Im heartened that you thought there was something positive in Peter Duffies review. I felt that every compliment was backhanded or grudging. I also found it irksome that he spent so much time on minutia, like the sound of the second deal versus the bottom deal, as if anyone could hear either under real-world conditions. He also took me to task for suggesting that knuckle flash and looking at the deck were, respectively, tells of bottom dealing and stacking when, in fact, they are. Personally, I was hoping youd get the book for review. Ah, well.

I think it's a matter of perspective. I submitted some of my books for review several years ago. One of the reviews was negative. At least, that's how it felt. Everyone I talked to commented on the "positive" review.

Even thought I know better, secretly I wanted everyone to love every little part of the books. That is unrealistic. But still - I'm human.

Duffie has a few issues with your book, but nothing that would have clouded my personal buying decisions. Overall - as someone without a dog in the fight - I thought it was a positive review. Now, being on the receiving end I know it sometimes feels differently.

Congratulations on your positive review!

B

Speaking of positive reviews, the highlight of my week was this review in Sports Illustrated: http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/ ... /index.htm The reviewer treats the book as a manual for cheats, rather than a cheating-protection book. But, hey, I'm not complaining.

Book reviwers? Lemme tell ya about book reviewers...

There were a couple of moronic reviews of my Roddenberry bio by clowns who wrote what I had in my mind when I wrote the book. They were able to describe both my thought processes AND my motivation. This was amazing because not one of them did any "pre-show" work such as calling me up and talking to me or sending me a letter. And, of course, not one word they wrote about what I had in mind was even remotely accurate.

Such hutzpah would have made Dunninger blush.

As for Allan's book being characterized as a "cheating manual," well, that means he'll probably sell more.

Well, it did cause a week-long spike in the Amazon numbers, although I have no idea what that means in terms of copies sold.

Howard Schwartz of The Gamblers Book Shop in Las Vegas gave his blessing to the book yesterday. The curious can check it out at: http://www.casinogaming.com/columnists/ ... /0618.html

Jim Swain made my day by posting the following review of 52 Ways to Cheat at Poker on Amazon:

**** A terrific book!, September 17, 2008
By James Swain (Florida) - See all my reviews

This is one of the best books written on poker cheating, and should be in the hands of everyone who plays for money -- from friendly Friday night games, to people who play in card rooms, to tournament pros. The author has done his homework, and gives the reader a superb education in the varied ways that hustlers and cheaters rob you of your money. Do yourself a favor and buy this book. Then read it. You will not be disappointed.

If I didn't already own several copies I'd buy it myself. Hope you will too: http://www.amazon.com/52-Ways-Cheat-Pok ... ef=ed_oe_p
