Al Schneider on Clairity

Postby Matthew Field » January 15th, 2004, 8:19 am

The best thing I've read in a long time is Al Schneider's "Schneider Technique" column in the February Genii devoted to "Clarity." I consider it must reading for every serious magician.

Also -- check out the mini flip book on the upper left hand pages of the Burgoon article. It'll have you wiping your, er, eyes.

Perhaps you would enjoy Schneider's complete 'book' that's posted online at

It kept me up late several nights in a row! --Asrah

Al is a true gift. I love watching him work, and his clear vision and simple, to the point writing style is refreshing. I always learn or re-learn something important reading his thoughts on magic and performance. He has been very generous in sharing with the fraternity as well.

Thanks, Al.

Al is indeed generous. His web sit as noted above not only has a lot of great magic to see but an entire "book" on the art of misdirection.

This can get any magician wanting to improve to think. A great piece of work. I always look forwaed to articles about theory - tricks are okay but they can become a bit boring.

Something that has been added in just the past few days is a coin trick. Not just a demo but complete instructions - what's up with that?
Worthiness is measured not by how much you chatter, but by how much you help another.

Frank is referring to Al's new trick "Supernova," which is a real killer.
Watch the demonstration, but do NOT read the explanation for a few days!

I watched the thing three times before deciding to investigate the method. Afterwards I had to watch it again to confirm the things I had seen though not noticed. A good lesson. Thanks Al!

Intersting article. I like the final line, "Good magicians won't rush an effect. They will understand the needs of their audience and give them what they really want."
