Flim-Flamagic: Bulletin!

Postby Bob Farmer » January 23rd, 2006, 3:39 pm

As regular readers of Genii have noticed, pages of strange card circles have been appearing with no explanation. First, some reassurance: these have no relation to the crop circles that aliens have been creating in fields all over the world. These card circles have been created by me (to be honest, I am considered an alien in the U.S., but only for immigration purposes). There will be four pages in all, one in each of four issues. Make sure you collect all four issues because these are the props for what could well be one of the most bizarre card tricks of this century.

As the Editor of The Magic Circular, I am seriously considering suing Mr. Farmer for infringement of use of the word 'Circle' in relation to an ostensible card effect.

As for the rest of you, ignore Mr Farmer's alert at your peril

The Magic Circle cannot sue me because right now I am sitting within a pentagram drawn with a Yeti's powdered bones and I'm repeating the Latin spell for repelling Englishmen, demons and transplanted Americans.

You need the Gaelic addendum to the spell to deter the Celts (that's Scots, Irish and Welsh for the rest of you...)

On a more serious note - I read somewhere that non US citizens cannot sue in the YooEss, and also they cannot be sued. Does anyone know the legal standpoint on that?

Take care, Ian

Unfortunately, there's a transatlantic tendency to shoot rather than to sue.

Nice not be sued. Really nice not to be shot.

But I'd be interested to hear whether we're "unsueable" in the US, and, if so, why.

Focus, boys, focus. Concentrate on the topic not the tangential. The topic is Flim-Flamagic, the card circles and your need to buy each and every copy of Genii in which the circles appear.

Failure to do so will leave you without the props for one monster magical machination that could have been marketed for twice the price of your subscription.

The card circles will appear in the February, March, April and May issues of Genii. Better buy every copy and some extras because once these are gone there will be no more and this effect will be forever beyond your grasp -- earthling.

That blasted paged caused me to go through Magicana about 20 times looking for a reference. I finally went back and reread Richard's page more closely and found the reference to Mr. Farmer. I was definitely left beaten and bleedin' from that exercise.

Looking forward to the routine - I'm sure it will be boffo. Or is that blammo?

This is definitely a Bammo-level effect. It may even be above the Bammo mark and closer to ultra Bammo, or even maximal-Bammo with a side order of Bammo extreme and radical.

I could go on, but my innate modesty, humble inner soul and the rules here at the monastery prevent any further prideful boasting.

Bob performed and explained this effect in front of some high powered magic folks at a little get-together in Canada last summer. It impressed one and all.

It is a fine trick and will be worth the wait.

Can there be any better endorsement than a Mike Close endorsement. I think not. Thanks Mike! I should tell you that this trick is so good, it even fools me and I invented it. Really, I have no idea how it works. It may be real magic.

This is so good it fooled me even though I haven't seen it yet!!

Not knowing there were 3 more pages coming I had concocted a routine with just the one page, an invisible die, and the Kruskal principle. Maybe I can get it to market before the next 3 issues appear...

This month's (April) card circle design bugged me for a second then I saw an 8, K, 3, 10, 2, ... and started to wonder if any Queens were in danger.

It's just more proof for the public. All magic isn't mental but we magicians are!

I like it!
