Why wouldn't the "greatest living close-up magician" be invited?

But I thought FISM was for magicians - conjurors, sleight of hand artists, tricksters - not for people who actually can bend metal using only the powers of their minds?

Who cares what Penn & Teller think?

You do realize that all of this is James Randi's doing, right?

Yes.

It's hard to gauge who has benefited more from their symbiotic relationship, Randi or Geller.

I think the scale is tipped in Randi's favor.

Seems Randi will do anything to remain relevant. Most non-magic people have no clue who he is.

I hope you're being facetious.

It seems that Gellar is the one who will do anything to remain relevant - with magicians.

All perfectly valid opinions in my view Dustin.

That have had at least two threads dedicated to them. Aren't we at least a little tired of both side's arguments? We will never be able to convince each other which argument is right. Let's give it a rest is my only point.

I don't disagree with you Dustin.

However I guess if such grand announcements are made about Mr Geller attending FISM then we can only expect comments and observations to be made in response.

I don't recall all the other fine talent being afforded Special Announcements so wonder why Mr Gellar has been singled out for such treatment.

It's an interesting question though - for folks thinking about attending FISM would this announcement make up their minds one way or the other?

That IS an interesting observation and way better than the same old Geller/Randi stuff.

Uri Geller is a big star and a big draw in Europe. It makes sense to give his hiring a big PR push.

There have been many announcements about the FISM performers
Just go to the OP poster's profile and look at their previous posts.

Maybe I am missing something but if there is an act or event at a convention one doesn't want to see, then simply skip that event. Or choose not to attend the convention. Last I checked there are no magic police rounding people up and making them attend. :)
