Magialdia - Vitoria, Spain

Postby MartinKaplan » September 20th, 2014, 5:49 am

Magialdia is a weeklong event that takes place in Vitoria, the capital of the Basque Provinces. Its goal is to offer magic events for the citizens of the city, especially the children. There are a number of free shows for kids, as well as workshops. Magicians descend on the city on Friday foe events that are geared towrds them. In addition to the evr-present dealers' room, there are a number of lectures, a close-up gala and a stage gala. Events end on Sunday afternoon with a lecture by Robert Giobbi and in the evening there is an open air magic show with free admission for whomever wishes to attend.

Last night's close-up gala was outstanding. The performers were Marcelo Insua, Adrian Vega, Juan Luis Rubiales, Dani garcia, Joaquin Matas and Max Maven. The effects were quite varied and that made for an interesting evening of magic. The only negative was the presenters who wasted too much time trying to be funny or magical.

In spites of being a 30 year member of the AMA and living in LA for the same amount of time, this was the first time that I saw Max Maven work live. He was his usual magnificent self. He used some Spanish and was ably assisted by Luis Iglesias as his translator. The audience thoroughly enjoyed all performers, as did I.
