Youth Scholarship Program - Houdini Convention

Postby carkinlaw1 » June 5th, 2014, 1:34 am

Summary: The Houdini Club of Wisconsin is granting up to ten (10) free youth registrations for the Houdini Club of Wisconsin convention (www.houdiniclubofwisconsin.com).

Valued at $60.00 per grant (the cost of a “Junior” convention registration), this scholarship will provides the winning applicant(s) with admittance to all convention magic shows, contest, lectures, informal jam sessions, Saturday night buffet meal and party, and Sunday afternoon awards lunch banquet.

Youth’s are encouraged, though not required, to enter our stage, close-up, and/or escape contests; these provide the opportunity for developing stage presence and confidence while gaining valuable constructive and friendly feedback on performance and presentation skills.

The award also includes a complimentary pass to any non-magician adult guardian who is designated as the chaperone to accompany the youth(s) to the convention. The pass includes adult entry to the above items, except ticket to the Sunday banquet is available for purchase if desired. Travel and lodging is not included.

Who may apply: Youth(s) from ages ten (10) to through seventeen (17) years of age, who are magicians or are genuinely and sincerely interest in the art of magic or its kindred arts, and who have their parent or adult guardian’s consent.

How to apply: Submit a written application essay (can be in letter form or in email, preferably with Word document attached), stating in 500 words or less: (i) why he/she is interested in the art of magic or its kindred arts; (ii) what experience the applicant has in performing magic, juggling, ventriloquism, or other related arts; and (iii) what the applicant expects to gain or achieve by coming to the Houdini Club of Wisconsin convention.

Send the application to Big Guys Magic either by regular mail (to Big Guys Magic, 145 Park Avenue, Pewaukee, WI 53072), or by email to thebigguy@bigguysmagic.com.

When to apply: Applications for the 2014 convention (on Labor Day weekend) will be accepted through June 15, 2014, and winning applicants will be notified by July 1, 2014. Applications for conventions 2015 and beyond, must be submitted by March 31st of the year of such convention, and those winning applicants will be notified by May 1 of the particular year.

Each application should include a brief letter signed (electronically or in actual inked signature) by the parent/adult guardian which specifically (a) allows the youth to attend the Convention; (b) agrees to be financially responsible for any non-registration charges/costs incurred by the youth participant; and (c) designating whether this parent or a different authorized adult will chaperone the youth to all convention activities.

Apply now for this great event!

Why: The Houdini Club seeks to promote magic and youth development through this program.

Thank you, and good luck,
