22nd Battle of Magicians

Postby hugmagic » January 20th, 2013, 9:15 pm

Guys,
It is time to look at an old time magic convention again that is still fun and not outrageous money to go to leaving more money for the important things....magic.

This year will be the 22nd year for the Battle of Magicians in Canton, Ohio. Top flight acts and lectures and shows that rival any national convention will gather in Canton on May 2-4, 2013

This year Fielding West ( I hope you have been reading his advice in Magic Magazine) will be lecturing and performing. Joe Devlin ( one of the top cruise ship acts in the business) will return with his dynamic illusions for our big headliner show at the Palace Theater. Marty Hahne (Dazzling Magic) will be lecturing and performing with kid show and family oriented magic in mind. Closeup will have British flavor with Chris Payne and Mark Leveridge. Daryl (Mr. Fooler Dooler) will be back to lecture and entertain as only Daryl can do. Nathan Kranzo will bring some new twists and ideas to the table for you. George Saterial will perform his award winning dove act and lecture . And a big special guest, Nick Lewin will present his Billy McComb lecture that has been very rarely seen highlighting his relationship and mentoring from the much loved Billy McComb.

There are six super lectures, close-up show, Friday night show, $1601 in stage and closeup contest monies, dealers, a big headliner show in a restored 1927 vaudeville house with lots of real people watching the show (not just magicians who never react or clap!), and big free after show party in the hotel for registrants with a hot buffet.

Hotel for the convention is the Canton Courtyard Marriott (yes, you can earn and use your Marriott rewards points) with a shuttle to the Akron Canton Airport (check with the hotel on this one). Rooms are $95 with free (yes, free) parking. Lots of good, reasonable food in the area. Tons of stores close for the wives to go shopping while you watch magic.

Registration is still only $95 ( it does go up $10 after April 15th, so mail your taxes and registration before then). Hurry as all seats are reserved for the headliner show.

Here is the link for the website..http://www.battleofmagicians.com/convention.php.

More details will be coming but mark your calender now for the first weekend in May!

I should clarify about the Nick Lewin presentation..He will be doing his Late Night Cabaret Show which is a tribute to Billy...Though I am sure there will be plenty of Billy stories to be heard.
I wonder if Nick knows about the time at the Battle when Billy used a spray paint can to autograph his sport coat and later sold it in an auction.
Always fun and crazy times in Canton!

Word just in... Tim has cleared it with the state of Ohio to relax it's border sanctions and allow Steve Bargatze to come back into Ohio and perform at the Battle this year. Who can forget Steve's memorable post intermission re entrance to the stage via the freight elevator. Sure to be a hit again.
Devlin has been working hard on new twists, turns and tricks, to add to his solid set of of good workable material that keeps him work in the top spots and cruise lines all over the world.
Felding West...what can one say? His insight into magic from years as a working professional makes you think and reassess what magic is all about. From the little dives to the biggest stages in the world, Felding has done it all. Come and learn from a true expert in the field.
George Saterial has one of the classiest dove acts around. He will also lecture for us.
Still a few slots remaining in the closeup and stage contests and a chance to win some of the over $1600 in prize money. And the winning stage contestant will have the opportunity to perform not once but twice on the the historic Palace stage.
The Palace theater is a jewel in the entertainment world. Look up the Palace theater in Canton Ohio and see what we are talking about. A restored 1926 vaudeville house that is one of 5 in the whole country that still have the moving cloud projections on the theater ceiling. And with an audience that is usually 80% laymen, it gives a great feel to what a real, live theatrical entertainment should be.
The convention hotel has just added more rooms to our convention block as the allotted rooms had sold out. The Canton Marriott was just remodeled two years ago is a great hotel. They provide a shuttle to the nearby Akron Canton (CAK) airport. Free parking, indoor pools and other amenities are included in the $99 a night rate. This a great savings over the normal $179 rate leaving you more money for magic.
So if you are looking more fun, more magic and less money out of pocket, check out the 22nd International Battle of Magicians (http://www.BattleOfMagicians.com). Or call Tim to register now at (330)494-2623. Registration is $95 (Kids under 13 is $55). Rates go up on April 15th.
