Thom Petersons Casino Cut Card

Thom Peterson's Casino Cut Card - DVD - $25.00
Running time 30 minutes
murphysmagicsupplies

This is Thom Petersons version of The Universal Card,a plot that has been around a long time in which one card takes on the characteristics of several selected cards.

In Mr. Peterson's version, he calls the card a "Casino cut card" the card used to divide the deck in Blackjack. After saying that this is an "Old Style" cardboard card before the casinos switched to plastic, three cards are selected.

One by one the casino card becomes each of the 3 selections. As a finale, the card is dragged across the spread tabled deck and becomes a card with multiple cards on its face.

Although the final revelation received some nice reaction in the perfomances I tried with it, the rest of the routine ran a little flat, probably due to the fact that you really cant show the card cleanly after each change.

The DVD comes with gimmicks so you can do this with either a red or blue bicycle deck

Considering all the many fine versions of this trick in numerous books I think $25.00 is a little steep for a one trick dvd.

This is filler material. As such, it should be taught as a freebie in a magazine. Another exmaple of Magicins selling crap.

I don't want to pick on bagelsandlox, but if this is what the Light from the Lamp Online section is going to be like, this place is going to look like the Magic Caf in no time.

bagelsandlox: have you seen the DVD in question or seen someone perform the routine? If you have, then you are entitled to your opinion. If not, why are you opening your mouth?

The Universal Card is a strange plot. The only versions that are really successful are those with at least one gimmicked card because the spectators are never convinced there are duplicates if they can't see both of them at the same moment.

The idea of using the casino theme may be a good patter line for the trick. However, I haven't seen this DVD or the gimmicks involved and so can't comment on this particular method.

The three best methods I know of for this trick are Derek Dingle's (in his book), Brother Hamman's (in his book), and Max Maven's (in Focus, I think).

Can someone who has seen this offer an opinion?

I have not seen the actual routine, but anyone that knows Thom, and I do, knows that it would never be his intention to put out "crap" simply to make a buck. He's a full-time worker, and a killer one at that. He releases stuff that have brought him some high-buck work around the world. I haven't seen this particular routine, but it bery well could be "crap", though I doubt it.

Thom's a great guy, but if you didn't happen to like this item he put out, please check out his other stuff. He's really creative and likes to add his own twists to things.

I'm proud to call him a friend.
